Gearbox / Sega To Cancel Aliens: CM?
Aliens CM News | Posted by Darkness on 22 Nov 2008 22:58 BST
Aliens CM News There's a couple of stories circulating today on Kotaku and ShackNews that Gearbox / Sega was going to drop Aliens: Colonial Marines altogether. Apparently, Gearbox let go of a large number of employees today because Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway hadn't sold well. Kotaku also mentions that Sega may have cut the funding on Colonial Marines because they were concerned that the project couldn't be delivered on time and on budget.

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has since made a statement saying the game is still in production but a release date hasn't been confirmed. If the game is still in development, I'd expect it to be delayed at the very least. Still, there's no smoke without fire. Sure is strange that we've seen very little of Aliens: CM and absolutely nothing of Obsidian's Aliens RPG.

Randy Pitchfork has responded to the rumour to confirm that Aliens CM is still in production and on schedule to be released next year. So panic ye not yet.....

There was a very small article on IGN that stated there were some layoff at gear box and much of the staff was moved around. This has apparently delayed the game but it is still coming. They also got confirmation from sega that gearbox is still working on it and they have every intention of bringing it out. (not that that ever means anything for sure) I am looking forward to it.

i hope the games comes out
problem was that the brothers in arms hells highway game did'nt sell as much as espected
how come 80´s movies based games are the ones that find these troubles ( ghostbusters game was almost canceled also)?

It's really stupid though, that the Aliens game's completion depends on the success of Brothers in arms game, WTF!?

Guess it was for a cash injection to do the marketing etc. They spread the company too thin and there's a risk of the whole company going down.

The market's flooded with Brothers in Arms style military shooters anyway, it's no wonder it's not selling well.

I thought they where play testing CM?

"Gearbox Software, developer of the award-winning Brothers in Arms series, is looking for many focus testers to give us their feedback on an exciting upcoming Gearbox title. Gearbox has currently announced Borderlands, a co-op sci-fi shooter, and Aliens: Colonial Marines, based on the influential Aliens movies. We’re looking for people able to visit our offices in Plano, Texas for a few hours to help us hone our games’ appeal."

not really, can you name a couple? it does suck that CM is in jeopardy because they had everything waging on Brothers in Arms doing well. it was a let down in the aspect that it was the first BIA for the current gen and with all the delays it was still not ready to be released.

I'm definitely praying they don't cancel this game. Besides an small article in the latest Gamepro and cover feature from GI, I haven't heard much of this game, but the screen shots looks very good. Hope the game plays as good as it looks though.

Please! Not again... Don't cancel this baby :monkey2 It's the only game I'm waiting for

Actually, this game IS looking rather awesome. It's back on track too, from what I heard. It was only pushed back to make people focus on AvP first.
