So,e of those difference are a direct result of poor lighting, but it is a worthy cause to email SSC. However, at the same time you will never get the same paint app on a production piece as the proto. It is an unreasonable expectation.

That's the challenge a lot of us face. I have collected many things for years and I have never had to worry about a production piece. I always got what I ordered. Ss challenges that perception. It hasn't always been this way. My older ss items came heavier and with better paint. They always looked like the prototype. I'm thinking of my original cap and thor...the new ones don't compare. Thinking of the ah line. The brooks girls. Punisher...my old dios...heck even my old lotr weta stuff came out like the pics. I can order bowen or koto hot toys some anime and it always looks like what's in the pics. Wasn't till the infamous rogue scandal things started changing

All in all, it is still a good looking piece.

I do have issues with proto pieces differing from production on some items. I know that proto pieces are hand painted by a professional while mass prod pieces arent. However, paint differences should not be apparent on items to a degree that it changes the essence of the statue.

SS decides on which statues to build. They understand that in doing so there are some that are higher risk than others. Example, Collossus is a low-risk piece; big, 4 color, flat paint, no shading effect, minimal details. Ivy isn't. She's highly detailed, vibrant colored, shaded (around leaves), and seductive. The paint application is what defines the essence of the statue. It is an ambitious statue to create. That's why she is sold out. If she looked like a blank corpse covered in leaves this forum would be 10 pages in by now.

So its not so much the issue of final production, but more the setting of false expectations.

As for mistakes (ie. googly eyes), that is unforgivable. At the price we pay that should never ever ever happen. SS needs to show a lot of respect to their collectors. A series of 2500 pieces may seem like a lot, but understand, that's 2500 pieces in the whole *&^%ing world. This is a very small niche market of people willing to shell out for their product. They should never provide us with a product at the price we pay that makes us question their quality. Ever.

I dont know a single industry who's customers say "don't expect much from them" or "don't expect them to deliver what they promise". Only here. I cant get comfortable with that. Especially for such an indulgent and expensive hobby.

Overall, I very much like the piece. But I do expect SS to deliver to me a statue that is free of defects.

Totally agree, this comparison is not pertinent.

Different lighting, different cameras used, two separate pieces photographed, each painted by a different artist.... even taken from a slightly different camera angle. Yet people think every picture will somehow be IDENTICAL. If i worked for an outfit like Sideshow, I dont know if I would shout with laughter at these wails and pleas for the impossible, or be annoyed at unpleaseable fanbois.

Good luck with your quest for the impossible, people whining about the paint. You are not getting, nor will you ever get, paint comparable to a prototype. Not unless you comission that same artist.... which some wage-slave working for a dollar a day in China WILL NEVER BE. However I will agree that that Spider-Woman PF WAS egregiously bad.

Good post mate, your right we shouldn't have to worry about if its going to look like the the prototype. All the older pieces looked as good as the one previewed.

Like I said in the above post, "I do have issues with proto pieces differing from production on some items. I know that proto pieces are hand painted by a professional while mass prod pieces arent. I understand they won't be the same, but when her eyes are in two different directions and you are comfortable with expecting that, its not a wonder SS has no intention of improving. I've seen lots of pieces where final production came out exactly the same as the proto. I would even go as far as to say the majority of pieces I've picked up have been comparable to the proto.

IMO the reason its good to discuss these issues in the forum is that hopefully people will address the concern with SS and hopefully some dilligence will be taken on their part to ensure retarded looking statues arent shipped out.

And thats my point. I don't expect it to look 100% like the proto, but I dont expect the paint app to be so &*&%ed up that her eyes are in different directions. Because its made in a Chinese factory doesnt mean I should expect defects.

I'm not sure why but the phrase 'retarded looking statues' really made me LOL.

Made me think of a whole line-up of :google Ivy PFs ready to ship. And a devilish little Chinese painter cackling over his prank.

Oh the horror...! :horror

My ire above wasn't really aimed at you, which I should have made clear.

I dont see her eyes as pointing in two different directions, but I honestly believe that no matter what direction her gaze is pointed in, people will continue to complain that it is wrong. We have people here who cannot be pleased. We have people posting "corrections" that are much worse that the alleged problem, but they cant see that because THEY did it - so of course its "perfect." And THAT is what strikes me as ridiculous.

So emails have been sent to SSC correct... And this conversations has been going on for what 50 pages now???? Why don't we put the brakes on it and just see how it goes. I know SSC comes here to read these threads, but after awhile I know I would start tuning it all out.
