Apologies for the pics, my florescent lights wash out my phone. I might take some normal light pics later in the week. I don't normally do reviews cos I typically get stuff late being in Australia, but I do appreciate the pics people put up while I wait..
These look ****ing incredible on my shelf. The Conan body is a bit on the light side, but still feels quality, the cast is great and the sculpt lights up so well it really captures Arnie's musculature. The warpaint version seems more like Arnie to me, I think cos the hair is out not swept back.
It would of been nice if the warpaint was in the pose of the sideshow version. Unfortunately the warpaint version also has the paint lines carved into the statue. Sideshow ****ed up the PF making it too small but they at least got the look of Conan being covered in ash with a charcoal pattern on him correct and without carve lines. The black at least isn't as glossy as I feared. Blood spatter is good.
The regular is painted great, my only disappointment with it is that the base isn't sand.
The base is the only sour note in an otherwise amazing piece. The bottoms of the base aren't flat. On both versions. So despite having pads on the edges the centre of the base is lower than the edges and the statue is almost on it's own turntable and spins off the centre of the base. There's a bubble in the centre of the plate on the bottom. Poor. If you look in the pics you can see the rise in the base off the shelf on the front.
Mixed media is great and the animal furs in particular are superb.
As for picking one, they're both great in their own different ways and in representing the scene they are taken from have cons aswell. I've always liked the kitchen / orgy sequence and the soundtrack for that so I'd take the warpaint version but you can't go wrong with either.
It's a massive Conan centrepiece and the sculpt is impressive. I'm a bit shocked it's still up for order, you really can't beat this for $850 compared to what other 1:3 pieces go for. The base is a bit underwhelming (but I get that it saves on cost) and I'm bummed they're not flat. It doesn't affect the overall stability of the statue.
If you're a Conan fan you're crazy to skip it.
Cheers
I quite like this display at the moment so they'll be setup like this
