All of their stuff is based off of the marvel movies

No, it isn't. They do a bunch of other sets, most recently, Gangsters clothing sets, they've done a number of female business suits, a bunch of men's suits, both male and female motorcycle outfits, men's bomber jacket sets, none of which have been inspired by any particular film. In counting up what they've done, out of 48 SKUs, they've done 13 that could be called "movie" sets,. Of those, 8 are based on Marvel movies.

Will those 8 marvel items be blocked from discussion too? Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be a smart ass or argumentative in the slightest, for the record I completely agree with the closing of the Pop toys threads, I just think that it's a bit of a gray area since there's a lot of companies, beyond just pop toys putting out things that overlap those that hold official licenses. I'm just more asking the question and provoking thought on what the protocol for this sort of thing is, or should be.

Then again I'm pleading a bit of ignorance on this subject as well, were the pop toys Sherlock sets straight recasts and reproductions of the big chief ones? I ask because I honestly don't follow Sherlock.

There's some other instances such as the wolverine and godfather threads where the knock off sets are being heavily discussed as well.

The landscape for original creations is limitless, not sure why a company would invest in creating a bad-looking version of something someone else has already officially licensed. That makes a few quick bucks, but long term it doesn't help build your brand at all. In fact it has the real potential of hurting your chances of ever securing licenses in the future. Pop makes decent clothing and IMO, that's what they should stick with, marketing to the people wanting to work out their own kit bashes. Want to make a figure? Start your own line, with the manufacturing and product experience, it won't be difficult to attract some talent to fill in the imaginative and creative void for originality.

Something related that has come up here a number of times and comes up on FB regularly, wholesale re-casts and counterfeiting. I hope to continue to see threads of that nature immediately killed/cleaned as well. Just this morning on FB, people are chatting up a counterfeit (all parts re-cast/identical) of a particular HT product, one or two people even saying that the low price is proof that Hot Toys are ripping everyone off. Wow. Just wow.

You know, companies like pop toys are just front. If they need to secure a franchise in the future, they'll just use another name. Look at all those ephemeral companies that pop up for one custom figure and just vanish afterward. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them are not just in fact a single company. This is the way to cope when you make unlicensed stuff. Makes it more difficult for lawsuits to track them...

However what we won't support is a bootleg manufacturer that produces an inferior knockoff of an existing and available licensed figure. And I consider acknowledging it's existence as "support."

Hot toys themselves started their business on unlisenced figures...

Yes, Hot Toys emailed me about that and we cleaned the discussion from the forum. That was not only a bootleg but a BAD recast.

If we're talking about the same thing, that Stormtrooper looked more like a recast of the SSC version. But I guess if Hot Toys claimed it, fair play.

Though I still wonder why it seems like they're not doing anything about it. These Chinese sellers claim that these recasts aren't really recasts, just "leftovers" from HT's factory.

The discussion I was referencing was a Marvel character - it comes packaged and all.

Yes, there are different degrees - the obvious Sideshow and Hot Toys recasts are probably the worst offenders but also exact copies (albeit with a different sculpt) from bootleg companies of existing, available, licensed characters aren't allowed on here.

Dave, it might be a stupid question but if you are already in contacts with SSC and HT, would it be possible to get permission to adress bootlegs/recasts to the public? The new *** characters name has been edited out by KG *** desaster is another step forward for the bootleggers. I almost bought a knockoff **** because I thought it was authentic and I am pretty aure I am not the only one.

If it would be possible to have one thread (comparable to the SSC statue recasts thread a few years back) where people can warn each other. Personally I would be grateful to also have ebay links in order to AVOID those auction and being able to tell false from truth. In the first post we could list all the items that have been copied so far so people can buy with a little more awareness.

Granted there will be a few people who might use the links to buy the bootleg stuff, but these people would buy the stuff anyway. So there is not really a reason to not warn those people who are interested in buying the original.

Maybe this thread might be something for the Premium section to make it a little less public?

Thanks! Didnt know where to post this and I figures this might be the right place.

Sorry for my bad English today. Had a long day and I am tired. *brainfart*

SSC and HT would rather this stuff not get any more publicity than it already does.

What's the thought on unlicensed products based on a property without any existing official 1/6 product? Playtoys oblivion figure is an example (and most of what playtoys does).

Dude don't apologize for your English. It's better and more proper than most of the people I interact with in the US daily. I hadn't even noticed anything until I read your final statement.

if license holder not making any noise, like the 1/6 Dredd...

I saw one of these, and it offended mine eyes, and I wished it gone, and now it is!

Moo Hoo Ha ha.

Thats why I thought it might be something for the - otherwise almost dead - premium section. The premium section is a more private place.

Btw: Can you please check for my status and when I habe to pay you again? I have paid manually last year and looks like I am falling through your system somehow...

Thanks man! Comments like this are highly appreciated. In fact I try to keep my (writing) English as active as possible. This is why I have registered on SSF in favor of a German board a few years back (and because most Germans suck :lol ). :duff
