This book comes out Saturday July 21. How can Amazon gaurantee delivery on a Saturday? Are they going to use Overnight Delivery on every order?

Just curious becuase I want to get this book the day it comes out but am not sure if that will work with Amazon.

Presumably they will overnight it. I would suspect if they are saying it will be there they will do everything in their power to do so. But some things do go awry so I would still consider it a risk. If I were you I would preorder from your local Borders or Barnes and Noble (I'm sure they'll have plenty, but pre-ordering is always safest!) and get there that morning.

I think a couple books shops are opening at midnight so I might just drive around and see if I can pick one up. Of course I still need to read books 5 and 6 first but I'll be doing that the week before the final book comes out.

They did it okay the last 2 times. I don't know how they manage it, perhaps a negotiated guaranteed delivery date from the post office or something.

I have Hallows with Amazon but really.. im tempted to just cancel and get it at Barnes and Noble with the midnight party..

I have the deluxe edition on order - might just pick up a reading copy though. Hate to wait in lines with all the little kneebiters though.

The midnight party is what I'll be doing, I did it last year and it was okay. It was two in the morning before I got to buy my copy. So this year I intend to get there early and hopefully get a ticket with a low number so I am not at the back of the line again.

Is the deluxe edition with a slipcase or it is leather bound?

I think they get the books a day or two in advance so they can prosess the orders for delivery on the release date. Like this place here in denmark where i order Xbox360 games i usually get them on or before the release date. I know it's not the same as Harry Potter books.

When Book 6 came out I was in France at the time. I ordered my book from the UK Amazon and they guarenteed delivery on the day of release. My book arrived on the day of release in France from the UK.

If they can do that, I think they can guarentee a US delivery from the US.

Pre-ordering is over hyped and unnecessary. All you have to do is go to a local store and they will have a copy. Even places like Walgreens get this book. I have done it ever year and have been fine. I have never stood in a line for an HP book.

Amazon does have a deal with the Post Office. They receive and ship the books early enough to arrive on release day. Check the shipping package, it will have something like "Do not delivery before xx date" printed on it, so the Post Office must receive most of the copies before the actual release date.

Yes, but with pre-ordering, I usually save several dollars over a brick and mortar, and I don't have to worry about going out and picking up a copy.

Exactly.. they ship them all out so the PO has them early enough to make sure they are delivered on that specific day.

I know, but the fun is in the anticipation. And it looks like Amazon has sweetended the offer, not just do you get 49% off, but I just got an e-mail saying if you preorder you get a $5 coupon to use in August. I should do that, but there's no way in hell I'm waiting halfway through Saturday before I get it.

I am with you guys. IF there are better deals to be had then by all means take advantage of them. I might actually go through Amazon as well. I really don't care about getting it on day one but I do care about not having to do much work to get it....I am lazy. :D

I'll be going to Sams club and getting a copy. I'm sure they will have a huge stack and cheap.

Last time I preordered I didn't get it until three days after the general release, and as stated earlier, these will not be in short supply.

Seems like I read somewhere that the publisher is worrying about how any of these stores are even going to turn a profit over Harry #7 because of the drastic discounts so many chain stores are making.

I ordered from my local Target and I will pick it up the ole fashioned way. :p

I read that too. Because everybody is selling it SO cheap, no retail store is making any profit off of it. Isn't that hilarious?

OH, have you guy read The Harry-est Town in America? It's pretty interesting...
