Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Certainly looks like the City Hunter Predator to me.
OK may not be 100% accurate but what is in this game :dunno

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

The markup on this figure is clearly thru the roof. No way this cost that much to more to make than a 1/4 figure of the other lines.

Agree. If you really think about it - Lot's of items in this hobby carry big markups, but yes, this one is really effed-up.

should waited for es, that's a newbie move..disappointing. If es for ex is in the thousands, it is almost guaranteed you can pick it up after release for a nice discount.

Nah. Don't believe the ex will not sell out. But even if it doesn't, I can reasonably assume that the EX will not be found for a lower price, plus I like the flex-pay option, so I'm good here.
Besides, I think you probably know by now that I don't do newbie moves - Have a backup plan in place, just in case Hell freezes over and this is available for flex+discount in the future :)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Again, you are missing my point. They priced you out of an item, or even a line, but NOT out of the hobby. Unless you are going to tell me that you are done buying collectibles....Which you are not - Enjoy your Mythos Fett, and make sure not to miss the Big Chap LSB which you are waiting to order :)

I guess stalking is a form of flattery ;) I wasn't necessarily talking about myself though, clearly this price is too much for many people as the multiple posts saying so suggests.. that said, I did post earlier saying I'll buy the big chap, hope there is a P1 LSF and then call most likely it a day. Even the LSB's are shooting up in price and we don't know what the Big chap will be yet. I work hard for my money, I may not be priced out of the hobby but there will come a time when it gets so expensive that I'll have to say no more. This $1200 predator is pretty close for what it is. You're probably right that I'll still buy the odd piece, but then I've always been selective and restrained. I'm happy you like this.

Edit

Agree. If you really think about it - Lot's of items in this hobby carry big markups, but yes, this one is really effed-up.

Hang on.... we do agree after all ;)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Hey, just because you don't see me in every thread doesn't mean I don't know what's going on with who :D
My collection varies from 2" lego minifigs all the way up to life-size collectibles, I do read most of the threads on this forum, so beware ;)

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

I must agree tho that the trend of price increases are going to stop a lot of people myself included from purchasing a few products a year to maybe one or 2. I just cannt justify spending so much on statues when there is other things that need to be bought lol. I hope they wise up and not go much higher.

is this a 1200 statue probably not unless the fees to the studio are super high or there other cost we are unaware of.

There is - SS CEO just ordered a new car, all options included, plus, for the holidays, they are replacing the copier at the office.:lol

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

The price is a little steep but considering the P1 was 1k about 7 years ago, I guess is not too unreasonable. I want to get but thanks to the TBD ES I can take my time.

I think it's a good thing in a lot of ways for me, makes me way more picky in what ends up in my collection. I'm not ordering more than 3 pieces a year that exceed pf/maquette prices. Sometimes the extra money goes to ebay though :slap

I think your post sums up the collecting business and Sideshow for me quite nicely. Sideshow don't have to make it accurate and they don't have to make it affordable because there will always be just enough people that just like collecting things to justify these decisions.

I can't tell you how many video's on Youtube I've watched where the reviewer clearly has no great passion or interest for the subject matter and merely bought it because "it looked good'. Couple these people with high paid jobs and a love of statue's, you have your market.

That's basically it in a nutshell. Make enough to fill the demand, whoever those people may be. Why make it affordable or accurate when you don't have to? Not that it's a bad thing, it's just the way it is.

Every once and a while they will hit one out of the park though, enough to keep the fans of those lines hanging on. The Lord of The Rings stuff for example is extremely well done.

So will this have an alternate switch out head sculpt base like the Pred 1 maquette had, to display the extra portrait on when not in use? Id prefer not to just leave it in the box. Not for $1200.00. :lol

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

A small stand for the extra head? They will give you one eventually, including longer spear also... at the cost of 6 months delay or more. :gah:
I don't understand why SS' in-house product can be so inaccurate like this. Does that mean in order to get accurate ones, you need to pay extra for jointed product like MkVI or Neytiri?

The thing is making it more accurate in the first place wouldn't of cost a penny more. The people who make these are obviously very talented so why not do a little more research?
Ok, the spear is obviously much too small compared to the one used in the movie but i personally think it looks a lot better. The authentic one looked way too big and may of looked silly on this statue :dunno
The dreads do look different but it aint going to freak me out every time i look at it.

The QC issue keeps coming up as well. no one has seen the finished product yet. I've moaned as much as anyone about quality but SS can still do the job. Recently got Deadpool and the paint application is one of the best i've seen for a long time. If it does turn out poor i'm sure there will be a lot of *****ing followed by returns. No one will accept poor paint on a $1,200 statue and SS must know this.

And i agree with DH, This needs a small stand for the extra portrait like the Wolf had.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Like previously mentioned for it to cost more than $1500 with shipping and taxes it would have to be the perfect statue. It's possible they may fix some small details.

If I were in America then again it's a little easier to make those decisions but if you're from Europe or the rest of the world it makes zero sense to lay money down on this unless you're 100% satisfied with it as it is now and want the possibility of having to send it all back.

Unless you've got money to burn that is. I see they are bumping it again on the E-mail, maybe the reception hasn't been as positive as they thought.

I'll wait til next year and hopefully a local store might get one in and I can see it in the flesh.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

No way are they not including a stand for the extra head...has this been confirmed?

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

nobody has even asked SS about that. Wolf and P1 have them.

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Sorry but I disagree. I think $1200 is pricing a huge majority out of this, me included. It isn't that I can't afford it, it is that I still have some sanity and will not be forced to pay such a huge amount where it is really not justified. This is just a PF with a different title and People are jumping on it because there is no alternative, that isn't good enough reason for me. Saying you can move to a budget brand so aren't being out priced is a non argument, I have zero interest in those. This is my chosen line, I collect few pieces that I really like and enjoy, therefor this price point if it is to remain and become the norm it has indeed pushed me out of the hobby.... or until SS injects a little passion and attention to detail into said line in which case I might be more inclined to hand them such a large amount of my money.

Well said good sir! :clap

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

Oh man, I popped in here to see if anybody else was still excited but I guess this is the waiting part where everybody else excited disappears and it's just people's reason time on why they're passing:lol

I guess its time to unsubscribe until in-hand pics start popping up:wave

Re: Predator 2 City Hunter 1:4 Maquette

I think it looks good as is, better than how the movie version looked. In my opinion, hope they don't change anything. As much as some of you may hate to hear that.
