My issue with commissions is that no one seems to know what's going on and there is no accountability.

Perhaps if we have a single thread that lists active commissions - the sculptor - the project coordinator (if different than the sculptor) - the character - the price - the expected due date.

The due date would need to be met or the project would be deleted and the artist would need to refund all the money.

Sounds interesting, but a bit inflexible...
There are times when things in real life just happen and deadlines cannot be met. How would such things be judged, and by whom?
And if a deadline were not met, how would the refunding be enforced?

I applaud your willingness to help the community get out of this crisis, but I really think this is a case were each enters at his own risk.
I'm sure no-one will be willing now to hand out money before seeing a finished sculpt, and even so, buying from a customizer over the net is a leap of faith anyway.

I am glad to see you are willing to work out a compromise to keep these sculpt commissions going. I myself prefer they way Z handles his commissions by only taking a small deposit when he is ready to start the work. If your concern is sometimes a middle man starts the thread and the accountability is lost. Or that the sculpt never gets completed and a group loss their deposits, maybe a rule change could be that the starter of the interest thread pays the deposits himself until the work is complete. That way the creator of the thread bears the full responsibility until the sculpt is done.

Not a bad idea... could see the refund issue being hard to enforce. But if it isn't followed I imagine it would result in a hold being placed on taking future commissions and/or banning.

At the very least it would have some accountability. The person doing the sculpts would have to show progress or face consequences. Perhaps there should be a limit to the amount of projects that an artist could accept at one time. Say no more than 2 or 3 and after that they can't take any more till they finish with those.

im with ya dave on this one......i have gotten more excuses, and although i am a very reasonable and understanding person, sometimes it becomes very frustrating!:banghead

im with you dave on this give them a due daye so it betters the chances of us not getting getting ripped off

I like this idea. Good way to 'short-cut' what's going on on the board if nothing else.

Also helps artists from doubling up on the same projects. So maybe there won't be so many Jokers, etc.

Why not have an established member willing to handle the area hold the money until the items are completed, or refund them if they do not get done? I'm also looking for someone to cast 1000 copies of my weiner.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - the due date could always change, but we would at least need the sculptor to give us a date and keep us informed if it needs to change.

sounds cool !
But as this is side work for me, I prob wouldnt be able to give accurate dates if I decided to go the advance list route.
Would this be an interest list thread also for those announcing upcoming heads w initial progress picts ?

With ya, Dave. Whatever comprimise we have to come to I am for, even if it makes things tougher. I really don't wanna have to go to another forum to start and join comissions if I don't have to. I like it here.

Why take money at all? I never take deposits on sculpts and I’m plenty busy with work here.

With all the multiple sculpts of the same characters around here anyway why can’t someone just do a poll or something see what interest there may be in character “X” and see what the sculptors come up with and then let the individual decide what one they prefer.

Yes, ideally that would be how it would work. But I can understand that some sculptors need some guarantee before starting a job.

The concern I have with that are sculptors that are constantly pushing dates back. Where is the line drawn?

that sounds cool we get what we want (the buyers) and the sculptors don't get left hold heads nobody but but 3 people wanted.

I think there is a difference between, say, a 1/6th headsculpt of a Battlestar Galactica character (just a random example) and producing $400+ Marvel 1/4th statues.

They are both unlicensed, but one is used to bash kits, mostly for characters that will never see the light of day, and the other is used produce characters that could very well be in development by Sideshow and many other licensed companies.
