Who's gonna spend 10K on this though? Star Trek has been around for decades with a much larger fanbase comapared to Firefly/Serenity.

Only way that makes sense to me is if they're going to surprise us on price.
So not going to happen, especially given that the original BDR went from $2500 with a $500 discount for pre-order sign ups to $3500 before it was pulled from the market.
All the development work alone on the new one wouldn't have been cheap and since only around 200 of the BDR sold, even if the new one was say $5000 (which it won't be) I can't see how any more then 50 will be sold, but I bet they will set the ES at 100.

Maybe they know something we don't.
They may have been contacted by like 1000 people who said, "if only this were slightly bigger and three times the price!"
My guess is that development of this one might not be as high as the last one, which took years to do and was one of their early projects. This time around they know more and can make better decisions about how to create it. But--they also probably realized the price on the first one was too low, so this one is going to be more realistic.
Why do people keep throwing this 10k number. Only 2 of their pieces have been 10k, and that's only the largest (and not even newest) Star Trek one. I don't know how it stacks up to this and it may be 10k but it may not be. I think 10k for this is pretty excessive even for QMX.
... and they cheaped out on packing it which caused it to break off a piece during shipping.
How was yours packed, mine was in a wooden shipping crate, inside a cardboad box, with the whole ship sitting inside multilayer, custom cut foam all around it and warped in paper.
Inside instead of the custom cut grey foam cutouts it was just thrown in with a bunch of packing peanuts and one large hard piece of styrofoam on top. And that piece of styrofoam broke off the bit on top of the reactor with the engine on it.
Well, that's a bit of a shame, I wonder why they would even do that, since it then cost them more to fix yours then it would have cost to package it the saem as mine.
