I still love 1/6, but the areas that interest me have been changing.

First it was going off Marvel movies, and losing interest in most of the Marvel figures I have.

With DC I'm more into the world of Gotham, but I feel I'm done with Nolanverse collecting along with many of the comic book figures that get made by SooSoo and the ilk.

I used to buy all sorts of random figures because I liked the look of them, such as from Resident Evil, but now I feel much more focused on things that actually mean something to me. I want to keep adding to the TLOU world, but with actual representations rather than the random survivor types I was picking up.

Getting more into the western genre got me thinking about historical figures again, and getting back into WWII with Dragon in Dreams etc, but this time with the main focus on the North African campaign. I'm actually far more eager to receive the next DiD figure than I am for a Star Wars character now. That's the biggest shift in my change in interest.

I have a pretty good collection of historical Romans and gladiators, but the 1/6 industry is now usually more intent on making fantasy/movie Romans and gladiators, and quite often the same ones over and over again. So finding something in that area that interests me is a rarity - as with the HH/HY Oscan Samnite Carthaginian Mercenary , which turned out to be a nice surprise.

I totally get you man, as time went one I've pretty much limited my collection to stuff I love and that means something to me, as well as stuff I work on, lucky me that that stuff ends up being of things I love haha.

Notes from the Q&A with John from Queen Studios during the live stream with WillFoxification:
Thanks for doing these round-ups! I obviously love the open conversation Queen Studios' is having with collectors and the time John (who seems like a great sincere guy) is taking to answer questions, but I do have concerns that being so public about things still early in development could land them on the wrong side of collectors down the road if plans change.

John comes out and says their PattinsonMobile will be competitively priced and might be shown in May. Now what happens if a bunch of collectors pass on JazzInc's pre-order window, JazzInc has to pull the plug due to low sales, and then the Queen Studios version either never materializes, or is twice the price, or won't ship for years?

Likewise for the Delorean. As John said himself, their Delorean plans at this point are literally nothing more than the word "Delorean" written on a piece of paper.

I'm also concerned the turnaround times he's suggesting from the point Queen Studios decides to make something to the time they actually have something available for order probably isn't realistic, either. Especially given how he also said they won't move forward with a product until they're completely happy with it. I can just imagine the artists in the back going, "you told people we'd have this ready when?!". I'm not suggesting he's lying of course, but rather may be speaking beyond his area of expertise.

I didn't order it because I didn't need/want any version. My 1:6 focus is elsewhere.

Congratulations to all who managed to pre-order whatever version you wanted from whatever vendor based on the hype, "promises", and pricing you wanted or choose to believe for now.

The waiting game begins.

I agree, John himself said that since he's the only english speaker in the company and that a lot of stuff get's lost in translation, most of the stuff he said was followed by "but I'm not sure" so I took what he said with a grain of salt, it's great that they want to communicate but John suggested that may not continue to be the case as they grow larger, the same thing that happened with Hot Toys, I value trasnparency and communication, I think it's one of the most important things your company needs but I also know from expirience that it's a double edged sword if you don't properly communicate your goals and base your statements off assumptions rather than facts, going forward John definitely needs to have more information at hand for these livestreams so he doesn't build too many expectations that will result in inevitable disappointment if collectors interpert what he says as absolute certainty.

Exactly. Although I thought he said they do want to continue the transparency and communication no matter how large they grow.

Either way yeah, he’s openly discussing a lot of hypotheticals and future possibilities and might be setting expectations way too high for what people should realistically expect on their shelves from Queen Studios in the next 2-3 years.

The Joker figure might not even be released this year with everything that's going on and the fact they have to root hundreds of sculpts, yet everyone is saying how awesome it is that QS 100% guarantees they will have no delays compared to other companies when John himself said the QC will probably begin in Q4 and last a few months, people are setting themselves for disappointment with so many high and distorted expectations regarding Queen's production times and hopes for the figures they will make, too much hype is blinding people to facts, still I hope QS is successful with their first release.

Whenever a new company/start up such as this arises, the issue of clear and coherent ENGLISH communications that is fully verified and vetted get lost.

Way too many eager collectors and supposed social media influencers, etc. post their "interpretations" that get spread as "facts" when it's not.

I don't believe any announced/posted release dates because virtually every release date listed by any brand is delayed.

Due to ongoing issues of "integrity" and "transparency" across a number of vendors in Asia, I don't believe anything about "exclusive" details/offerings until it's proven to be a fact by the brand/manufacturer.

As usual, way too many collectors just too eager and willing to believe anything posted by whoever.

This is why I'm cynical and not trusting of anything within the hobby unless it's something I know and trust based on experience.

Well:
  • If they produce anything near the prototypes consistently, HT has some competition.
  • They won't produce the volume or variety HT does anytime soon.
  • They're probably always going to be more expensive.
  • Releases will almost certainly be late.
  • Without a pre-order nothing exists.
  • Until production items ship nothing is confirmed.
Does that about cover it? I figure anything else is just the ol' one-sixth crack pipe, like when people speculate about what Hot Toys will 'throw in the box' or secondary characters they're going to make.

The only thing Hot Toys will throw in is a price increase with maybe some cardboard, and they don't make secondary characters.

Looks like this department of Queen Studios is catering to a weird niche market between mainstream 1/6th and statues. Someone already said these are basically licensed and larger run customs.

That was me in the other thread.

I think Queen and Inart are in a precarious position. I've seen it myself where there's been very little criticism for the piece, even though there are improvements that could be made. And this lack of criticism is coming from a lot of people who usually balk at the idea of something 1/6 custom wise costing about $1000. I think someone else has previously mentioned the popularity Queen has, so I think they could be in danger of being their own downfall. so far all they've done is make a lot of promises or wish fulfillment and getting a lot of praise for it.

I know I mention JND all the time but I think probably because they're so priced and out of the market for what people want or collect that a lot of people here don't take into account that they put their money where their mouths are. All their releases so far have come out looking like their prototypes or better, and all of them have met their release dates, with show and tell and unboxing videos released along the way. Daniel is very good and earnest at engaging with the fans also, able to take criticism on board. So they follow through, I don't think personally that Inart/QS are going to be able to keep all of their promises. I don't think that they will come out as shown by the proto, although considering I've pre-ordered I really hope so. I also don't think they'll meet their deadline for release that they've announced. I think there's going to be quite a few issues on the way - but in saying this I really hope they succeed because A - I've pre-ordered this, and B - these types of 1/6 are needed.

I think their JND counterpart will be what rivals them.

That'll be easy to achieve. Their teaser image already shows a more diverse selection of licenses than HT's offered in the last couple years.

You realize there are collectors who'll 100% disagree with you for what you posted right? How dare you burst their bubble?

If that was legit the case I would be happy with Reloaded Neo and Smith, and Hector and Achilles from Troy.

Now that's something I'd stay up until 04:00 to Pre-Order the rooted UltraGigaMega Super-Duper Elite Premium Edition.

I'm not cynical enough to write them off right away, they are making big promises by introducting themselves as the brand that will revolutionize the industry and collectors hyping them up so much shows there is a huge desire for that innovation but Queen now has big expectations to meet and I hope they deliver but that they don't let the possible future success get to their head, I know how good it feels to have people loving your work and putting it up against that of the industry's giants but I'm a firm believer that humble beliefs will always pay off in the long run, which is why I'm always striving to do better and I hope Queen does too like they have promised and don't go down the Hot Toys route.
