Having a debate on another site and I don't have my books at work. Are there Elves at Helms Deep? I could have sworn in the book it pretty much went down like it showed in the movie. Am I mistaken?

What about during the battle for Helm's Deep, there are an elvish army of a couple hundred, they arrive ahead of the Uruk-hai army. NO?

in the movies only not the book

One thing that has mythed me was in the animated adaptation of Tolkiens LOTR by Ralph Bakshi, why did the film end after the battle of Helms Deep? I was so disappionted that it ended there as we didnt get to see the journey of Frodo and Sam, nor any of the rst that happened in the third chapter...however, its still one of my favourite animated movies! :wink1:

They tried to make it one film but found it impossible because it would be a 3 1/2 to 4 hr film plus it was getting really expensive....They decided to split it into two films and made the second a TV version to cut costs

Just look for Return of the King on DVD ...Warner bros...It's 97 minutes long done in exactly the same art as the tv Hobbit film...try Amazon or Ebay

Never happened in the book. The actual Battle for Helms Deep was very short in the books.

I always like to remind people of that. The battle is just a few pages and mostly consists of "Aragorn slew many enemies, Gimli slew many enemies, and the trees looked like..."

I kid, but the battle is only like a handful of pages.

I have seen them before but they are not done in the same style as the Ralph Backshi movie. Those ones you mention were like in a smurfs style animation...:(

If it was done in same style as the LOTR film then it would be in the movies and the ROTK TV version would not have existed...budget and film length were at fault

Yeah, Tolkien takes so long to describe everything else in the book in minute detail, but handles a battle so quickly! Maybe he just didn't like writing battles.

Prolly ran out of money.

Pretty much!

Thanks for the link, yes i have these 2 other animated versions but i was referring to Ralph Bakshi's movie. I would loved to have seen a further movie to continue through to the end. I love that animated movie but fely a bit let down when it finished after the battle of Helms Deep. There was so much story to tell :(
