Dear ASMUS:

Please take pity on those of us who can't shell out 1,000$ for a single statue......like this new reveal by WETA....

Thranduil.jpg

WETA sez he will be a meter high and the biggest piece they ever did. And u just know anything described as "for the discerning collector" means "if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it". Also this probably weighs 30 tons.

But.

U are masters of costume, have great stands and weapons, and already have a Thranduil sculpt. Or two. Plus it it's a fig u can pose and repose.
Thank you for adding something like this to the Crown Line.:panic::pray::pray::pray:

It’s things like that which make me glad I didn’t really care for The Hobbit movies. If I was a fan then I’d be having some serious anxiety about whether or not I’d could afford that even on a payment plan.

That IS amazing! It’s great Weta included an elven Royal guard in the display as well. I can’t locate this on the weta website. Where did you find this?

It's part of their remote ComiCon week of reveals. https://www.wetaworkshop.com/comicconathome

They've got some really nice Gandalf and Wraith statues as well. Sadly, due to budget and space constraints, with the exception of environment pieces, I'm mostly out of the polystone game these days. :monkey2

(Especially since this monster is likely to run about $3 grand!)

I cannot believe you smart people ask this question that took a shock at our office this morning after Weta's announcement.

We have something the same in right scale (1/6) in working, but it will be canceled and will only be used as display in the future...

HOLY CRAP!

You guys were seriously working on this, too!?

But why cancel? Just because Weta is doing one? But they would likely be very different prices, correct? Weta's will likely be close to $3,000. What price range were you guys aiming for? A lot lower than that, I'm guessing. Seems like it would be a great option for folks who can't afford the Weta version. Or for folks who collect figures instead of statues.

It would be a shame to stop now. You're almost there! And I'm sure there would be demand for it. (Having seen this pic, I might even change my mind and want one!)

Plus ... this confirms you're doing a throne room version of Thranduil, right?

Same here...pity as Weta have been putting out some really nice stuff since I stopped collecting statues! :lol

Shame that Asmus may be cancelling their version, bet there are a fair few collectors who would've liked to have got the figure with the throne (not me, not enough space unfortunately!!)...hopefully we still get a new figure though, as I would like to have him represented in my 1/6 figure collection

Please reconsider cancelling the Thranduil throne Asmus. As you can see there is certainly interest in the collector community and would make an amazing display piece for an eventual Throne Thranduil figure.

No, no, no, no. Please don't cancel. WETA is full of artists and/or is insane. Maybe you have to be insane to be an artist.

But please consider the customer base. A WETA piece like that will be very limited and out of the price range of most. Also it is a display issue. Even Richard Taylor in the video was laughing about it re the size.

But ASMUS could do a lightweight throne; just slightly elevated, all in good quality resin/plastic - while probably a Crown piece, and more expensive than some of your figures, a figure is much more easy for the less rich to deal with; plus Thranduil could be reposed.

The antlers could be scaled down a bit for shipping too - they don't have to be EXACTLY the movie proportions, just the general effect. U could make a hollow base with an opening and let customers know for weight they would need to provide their own ballast (aquarium gravel, sand, pebbles etc.) - like a kit.

I own WETA pieces but probably not that one. Please think about the throne!:crying:crying:crying:pray::pray::pray:

Yeah, except for smaller pieces WETA - perhaps wisely - seems more geared to the "discerning" collector. And that's fine; there are things I can never afford anyway, always. But I was already picturing an ASMUS Thranduil on Throne. With ASMUS' superb tailoring and accessories re the costume, the robes spilling down :crying:crying:crying

How about skip the throne, and do the animal he rides? Would look great. Then down the line, Ironfoot with his war pig

I want the throne. Can already picture it on the shelf, with Thorin and Bilbo in front.:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

And that's another thing - there's no Thorin or Legolas to put with the WETA piece. Not a deal breaker like the probably eye-popping price for WETA, but for me re space it would be nice to have figs grouped on shelves.

If Asmus could produce this throne in a light, hollow resin in the $200-$300 range (not including Thranduil), I would totally buy one.

Definitely. Just as a stand-alone, it screams mythology and Middle Earth. I've got a aquarium gravel and patio sand ready (since I know shipping costs are base on weight of the piece as well as box size).

Anyway, WETA incorporates plastics in its pieces and figure even the WETA piece will have plastic antlers - they would be too fragile in poly.

Nooo Asmus nooo, do not cancel this precious! You break my heart! 😭😭😭
Me personally not collecting statues as they not poseable. 🤬
Can we have at last new throne Thranduil version? 🥺

I'm probably not using the correct terminology here. Asmus do your sculptors digitally render sculpts now or are first sculpted by hand? If they are digitally rendered is there a chance we can see the digital render of Aragorn?
