Agreed! :lecture

I've got the Sideshow/Weta Sauron statue, which is 1/6th scale and I'm fine with that representation.

Aw, c'mon, man. You've got the best tag line about conversations like mini-skirts, and then you go south on a Sauron 1/6th figure. :ignore:

Would 1000% buy Sauron. I've got the SSW statue and the gigantic SS premium format statue. Never enough Sauron! Love the character design and would love to see Asmus take a whack at him.

Yeah. If somebody tells you you need to show them Lord of the Rings with just five key characters:

Frodo, Gollum, Sauron, Gandalf, Aragorn

I know people love their headsculpts and Sauron is just a giant guy in armor...but even if I weren't a fan of bad guys in movies (which I am) I would want a Sauron for a good LotR Collection.

Totally Agree the entire series is about Sauron! If they don’t make any other figures. Sauron & Sméagol will be the reason it’s a fail! All the other characters on these list are not as important. Both of these characters are involved in all 6 films. Lurtz is a close 3rd to be created..

Yeah, I know. One can never have a statue stand-in for figure. I think that is one of the official "Rules of Figure Acquisitions", if not mistaken. :lecture

I'm just coming from a direction of just running out of space. But if it comes out looking amazing, I would definitely weaken and end up getting the Sauron figure as well...

How do you not have Samwise in that five? Sam is the true hero of The Lord of the Rings, and arguably the most important. No collection is complete with Sam.

Personally, I would say, Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Aragorn and Gollum are your five key characters. Not Sauron.

(I think I would ask that person why they're demanding I show them a 14-hour story with just five characters. Seems like an odd thing to ask for.) :lol

I remember someone telling me that back before I was born the Beatles wanted to make the movie playing all the roles themselves so if that had happened...

Honestly, I wish I could duck in and out of the multiverse to check out the alternate timeline where they actually made that movie! Would have been fascinating! Terrible, yes, but fascinating!

Well it is an abstraction. You remove persons until the very core of the conflict of a movie is left. Take James Bond for example. I think we can agree that Bond vs. his evil villain in each movie is the main thing. Of course, Bond wouldn't win without gadgets from Q (Same as Frodo couldn't win without Sam) but that doesn't matter. Without the villain or without Bond the movie doesn't work.

For LoTR you could say the main conflict of the story is the "Sane Mind" vs "the one Ring" but since the one Ring is not a character, we take the next step: Sauron. Without Sauron the movie just doesn't make sense. There would be no evil Ring and no main conflict. End of story.
So Frodo and Sauron are the main chars of the whole conflict. Sam may be the secret hero, but the story is about the other two. Since the movie has so many important chars, I reduced it to 5 just because I could. And Frodo somewhat stands in for all hobbits in the movie anyway.

In the first edition of The Fellowship of the Ring, Tolkien's foreword claimed he had translated the Red Book from the original Westron into English.

So, The Lord the Rings was based off the Red Book of Westmarch which had the title "The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings and the Return of the King" which points to Sauron being the title of the book were discussing.

Objectively that makes him pretty pivotal character.

Im hopping to get some answers to a few questions from Asmus.
1. One of the things that makes LOTR epic are the army... my question is what future released figure will be an army builder? Im surprised this hasn't happened already. Star Wars has made a killing with clones and stormtroopers. Where are the ORC, Gondorian soldier or rangers, Roheriam, or goblins for that matter?

2. what's the status on the build an Orc figure? was this project scrapped?

3. Is the Horse line done or will there be a rerelease?

Very good questions!

I’d say I’m shocked at how committed to this line I’ve become- but it’s freakin’ LOTR!! It was inevitable.
I only discovered it earlier this year and was gonna just get Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli- Gimli is who fully pulled me in as he just looked so damn good so I had to PO- then I got Boromir and just found Saruman with Palantir, The Witch King and even The Mouth of Sauron on eBay for more money than I’ve ever spent on anything. Good thing I did so much overtime at work last month.

So I still need the hobbits and GtG to round off my fellowship. I know GtG is getting a rerelease and I think the hobbits are all available through Asmus’ site which I’ll give buying one a go from to check if I get boned by customs (UK fan, here) so if I can be sensible and space out my spending I should have all the hobbits by Feb 2019. Then, if I’m still waiting for GtG I’ll get Eowyn and Grishnákh.

With that all said, I guess my question is: can we expect more re-releases from the earlier figures of less prominent characters- primarily the orcs; Gothmog, Guritz and Grishnákh?
I want absolutely everything LOTR related (no Hobbit thanks) and playing catch-up hunting down these older chaps is pretty costly. Also, I reckon the two Mordor orcs could be done so much better now.

Anyways, bring on 2019 and the Helms Deep crew! Armoured Theoden, Haldir and Uruk-Hai plus a Berserker from Azog’s base body with a big ol’ bomb and ignition torch accessories.
I’d love some outfit packs for Aragorn and Legolas too. Legolas’ shoulder pads plus the addition of a sword had him looking like an absolute war machine.

Oh man- has anyone thought about how the King of the Dead could be done?
