I remember someone saying that the original tunic is the same color as SS, and while Lucas may have changed the color of it in post SS like all companies base products on the research material given to them and by the standards of the licensor. If Lucas dictated that he wanted it too look exactly as the costume on set and then provided a poncho that was used on set that was blue-ish, then SS is correct.

Phantom Menace had the 3 prongs. Clones and Sith did not.
Is that what the difference is? I thought it was just in TPM Qui-Gon actually uses it. Offhand I can't remember anyone else using it in the other movies.

Seems it would have worked better to include the non-open version everyone else got AND an open version with a holographic Queen's starship attached to it.

Here's a pic showing it was grey same one that someone else found. I also found a pic of a Hasbro 12" with a Grey Poncho. I just can't find one big enough this was only a thumbnail. I gotta find a bigger picture of it. The poncho is grey plain and simple. In some scenes it might have looked Kahki but it appears it was grey.

From Wikipedia.

There is an urban legend circulated among Star Wars fans claiming that a piece of fabric seen draped across some furniture in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s hut in A New Hope is actually the grey poncho worn by Qui-Gon Jinn during his visit to Tatooine in The Phantom Menace. Whether the costume designers of Episode I intentionally fashioned Qui-Gon’s poncho to resemble this obscure piece of cloth is highly dubious and remains unconfirmed.

Looks grey to me.... but it probably looks tan thanks to the sand and all the other brown colors surrounding.
