Someone here claimed to have had commissions made of new Fight Club figures after Rainman released his, but I've never seen pictures. So far, all the publicly shown commissions I'm aware of have been different from anything he did before. And the fact that Yunsil asked Ren_Dog for Serang's permission before doing even a new Hendrix outfit suggests to me she wouldn't re-do another released outfit without the permission of the original commissioner.

Rainmans new project: Overlook Caretaker

If you commission a piece do you own the rights to that head sculpt? For instance if you wanted to recast it for sale could you? I didn't know if you own the rights after purchasing

I wonder (if this actually did happen) if Lee charged him less than other private commissioners seeing as he already done the characters. I could imagine this happening if the sculpts weren't changed.

No, I doubt you'd own recasting rights as you wouldn't be the artist who created it. And I don't think any artist would take kindly to a person making a profit off the artwork that they didn't physically create, without seeing any of the money themselves.

^^^^ with this specific head sculpt

Legality is very murky, but the acceptability among the custom "community" would probably be dictated by the agreement between the artist and buyer. Sometimes sculpts are made with the understanding that they will be recast, sometimes they are made with the understanding that they won't be.

Well Rainman's own contributions would likely be limited to sculpts, accessories, and painting. If he re-used the sculpts, then it seems like the desirability would drop significantly. But then again, I saw a figure on eBay recently with a small run Yunsil outfit and Rainman paint (not sculpt), that went for over $1,500.

When you commission a figure obviously you get a cast from the original, so the artist keep the original? What I was wondering is when you pay the fee for a commission piece do you now own that One of a kind head sculpt? I might have just answered my own question because you do not receive the actual sculpt just the cast of it. I personally would never recast anything because one I don't know how and two I would hate to be banned from this hobby. I just have always been interested in one of a kind. Jacob Rahmier did a hobo Superman for me that is a one-of-a-kind but it is the original sculpt modified

Again, that will probably depend on the nature of the commission. I'm assuming you would get a sturdier cast than the original wax or clay sculpt, and at that point I'm not sure what happens with the original. Could be sent to the buyer, could be destroyed. I took part in a small run of Caine Macho Man sculpts, and I have the wax original plus a resin cast.

Isn't this forum supposed to be about the DULL BOY!!!! instead of these other condos!

Like karamazov said, it depends on the conditions that the artist sets with the buyer. But under no circumstances should someone recast a sculpt without permission from the artist, that's a breach of basic intellectual property law. Recasting without permission has always been illegal and even Rainman restocks headsculpts to stop recasts flooding the market that should be for his own artwork.

However, I believe that mods like Jake's are fine because he's charging for his additions (or reductions) to a sculpt, so he's charging for his work, not the pirated work of another... or something. Customs are so complicated :lol

Anyway, yes, Dull Boy! Getting closer now...

Actually i have not asked Yunsil Yet. I went straight to Rainman. When i asked Lee about doing A Hendrix Woodstock for me, He was confused.:lol He thought i was asking him to do the Monterey and Haasar Tunic Hendrix versions that Serang did. Hence why he told me to ask Serang:lol Serang is hiding and on the Run these days. Lee is very busy and i Will wait for a reply.

Ren_dog....why don't we try to get someone else to do the headsculpt and have Yunsil do a different clothing for it...that way....we don't have to wait on RM to maybe do something...I only say that because I hate to think that any fellow freak has to basically beg RM to do something that was done by someone who is considered a crook now...It just doesn't sit well with me...

I think there should definitely be a rally to do a Hendrix to the caliber of what serang gave to those lucky 10-15 collectors but with an even better headsculpt!!!..the clothing can be different but the headsculpt is what will make this a reality....I would say inigou but that just me having biased opinions...lol...if RM thinks he has to get permission from Serang then I don't think he is the right man for that project...so...should we take this to a new thread and leave this one alone until we actually start receiving our overlook caretakers...?
