Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

I'm gonna have to make a few bob with this pawnshop guy in the market place if I hope to pick one of these up. :lol

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

Yeah I'm not too convinced on the expression yet till we see it head on. Looks a bit too neutral, but I was hoping for more of a cold hearted look which can be hard to capture since it is similar to a neutral face.

Do you feel the change of the eye positioning would help achieve that?

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

Doc??? :dunno Well in my eyes Wonka is Rainman's best piece. The clothes, sculpt and ultimate accessory (Ommpa Loompa) make it the one to have. Yes, even over Mr. Butcher! Commence FLAMES! :lol

:1-1:

Having once had Doc in-hand as well as Wonka and Bill.

I have to agree the Doc head did approach Bill-like status as far as likeness is concerned. The pictures did not do Doc any justice, but we have seen some amazing paint ups by some of the painters on these boards.

Wonka is very nice and looks so much better next to an Oompa from what I can tell in the pictures.

Now as far as value is concerned that Wonka DX is priced a lot higher in the market than a Doc DX easily. I think a Doc FS is neck and neck with a Wonka FS.

Probably his weakest was Pee Wee :gah:

Edit: This is all subjective (of course) :monkey1

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

Ya, that needs to be seen for sure.

It will definitely make a big difference not just because it gives us a better view of the sculpt, but because the reference material basically advertised and played off of direct eye level views of Anton.

I think I asked this before in another thread so I apologize if this has been said much before, but I was wondering in general why people will usually go for the full set or deluxe over just getting the painted head and the outfit? I was looking through Rainman's site and it looks like you could always get all the clothes and a painted head for around $450, as opposed to $800 for the full set and $1000 for the deluxe. I could see people not wanting to do this back when he had other painters, but it sounds like the new one (is her name Aeon?) is amazing so it seems like a much better deal to me, especially considering he uses knockoff bodies (I think?) so I've heard of a lot of people switching out the body anyway. I realize it isn't as "exclusive" (all his stuff sells out quickly either way though) as the sets, but it seems like a more bang for your buck kind of thing.

For someone like me who can't usually afford these, it seems like a smarter buy for me to get the clothes and head set for maybe two Rainman figures over the course of half a year rather than the set of a single Rainman figure. What do you guys think?

Of course I can understand the exclusives making the choice harder. I was looking at the Bill the Butcher and I think that even at the time of release I probably would have jumped on the clothes and head set. If either of Anton's weapons are the exclusive then it would make it really hard to resist going for the set.

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

Personally you just can't beat a fullset or dx, but that's me :monkey3

I do appreciate however the cost of the fullset and dx, so I don't say that lightly.

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

I'd never go for a fullset unless it came with something really special that would justify paying the extra few hundred for, now more then ever since he has better painter for the clothing and head sets. In my honest opinion your never really paying for that much extra with a full set, other then rainmans paintjob and saving yourself the hassle of putting the figure together yourself.

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

That video is great DM. That's the first time that I saw that as I lost track of SNL a while ago. It's amazing how many times and places these two movie characters are referenced together. That made a HUGE splash that year and it seems that the ripples are infinite :yess:

As far as the Bill/Wonka/Doc talk, I have to vote for Bill. I agree that Doc is the runner up in the realism category, the Dude is there too. These are the two that have the least of the infamous "style". I never saw Wonka in hand but it does seem to have that slight cartoony type style to it. But Wonka is hands down a ridiculous piece, and I'd jump all over a DX if the opportunity was in front of me.

@ Monger: Well you have a good handle on what the differences are so the only person that could decide what to do is you. That’s the great thing about how RM offers his work, there is a product that meets just about every budget. But at the end of the day you got it right. You pay double for a full set for his paint, an extra accessory, on a body (which is a really nice thing because that way it comes ready right out of the box without having to do some work that most of his half sets require). I’ll leave the TT vs. KO thing alone but getting an official TT was a factor in the high price too.

If I only had the money for 1 Rainman full set or 2 head and outfit sets then I would buy the outfit sets. You get the same cloths and the heads are very nice, and they may knock it out of the part on this one.

I bet you will get the cattle thing with the head/outfit set and the exclusive will be the shotgun.

I may have to get the head/outfit set. Or else I won't have money for presents. I think that happened last year.
No big deal.

That's more then likely how it will be, it would certainly be the best full set item he has done but I wish that weren't the case, I'd love the shotgun but I wouldn't want to spend full set price to have it. :(

Tracker and suitcase for fullset? Leave the shotgun in with the clothing sets along with the bolt pistol?:monkey3

They are all exclusive. Anything you get from him is going to go up in price or at the very least be hard to find. I mean yeah you get a bit more bragging rights when you get the DX over the full set or the full set over the outfit set, but once the figure itself is in a display case there's not much difference in the versions in the end.

The difference is the dx and full sets are numbered where as the head sculpts are not. Having the numbered addition is what makes it exclusive.

Re: Rainmans New Project: 'No Country Killer'

Few new details from Rainman:

Aeon will be painting the reg sets and loose sculpts again.
The transponder will be the fullset item.
There will not be a DX.
Rainman is currently sculpting the captive bolt and the shotgun.

I have also asked about the issue regarding Hot Toy's bodies but have lot heard back yet.

Updates to come. :rock

Wonderful. So we know the paint quality will be excellent for the regular sets (Aeon) and that the transponder will be the fullset? In that case I'm getting the outfit set most likely. Can't see much reason to do otherwise if both the shotgun and the captive bolt will be included in all versions.

My excitement just skyrocketed :yess:
