Re: Pescadero Encounter.

WOW - looks much better with big elevator-cabin - nice work a-dev :clap

When I built the diorama, it was only a certain size possible, as Vialli had no more space on his shelf. I'm very curious how it goes on....

Thanks for sharing :hi5:

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

Great stuff Andrew! Looks boss mate.

:lol

Maybe for the ceiling you could use some thin metal, some 0.5 Ally and punch holes in that, imagine punching holes in a tin can (coke etc) with a knife, you'd get frayed edges and stuff but it would look accurate. Then you could spray it white.

If you gave me some measurements mate I could try it in work as I am a sheet metal worker!

Thanks Rob, and thanks for the offer, I will keep that in mind. I've just been taking some pics of the Pescadero elevator ceiling from off my TV just to see what it looks like intact and after it gets messed up. Looks like the silver wall panelling continues up onto the ceiling and borders a central square where a white grill covers that section that gets shot and stabbed through in the screengrab I posted. The white grill gets knocked off and cut up with the T-1000 stabbing through it and the ceiling lights are left hanging - I'd love to be able to recreate that.

Great update A-dev. The dio looks veeeery good friend. :hi5:

Thanks very much. Its easily one of my coolest possessions now. Hope you don't mind me using your thread, it seemed the most suitable place to post its current status.

Thanks, great to hear from you about this. I hope you don't mind the alterations I made, I've kept it as minimal as I could, it didn't seem proper. The air bubbles on your sections of elevator wall may not have presented until after you shipped to Vialli but I thought they needed to be addressed - aswell as to keep it consistent with what I had found to use on the new wall sections. Its just this silver (more chrome really) card that I found in an office supplies shop. The black base beneath my new section is from the dinner table..one of those things you'd put your plate on, I hesitate to call it a 'mat'.

Would have been cool to see the completed elevator done by you but yeah space is an issue...as is shipping box dimensions and weight! This thing was already bigger than I thought it looked in pics. But since I now had it and shipping wasn't a consideration I thought I'd try my hand at making the rest of the elevator myself. And so far so good!

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

In the words of Miles Dyson 'This thing is kicking my ass'. Damned elevator ceiling. For some reason it now seems important that I do it where it didn't even cross my mind before but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to go about making it and incorporating it into the dio.

Yeah, Plattys idea of white spray-painted sheet of metal with the holes punched in, plus a mesh feature that breaks up and falls on the floor, a border all around thats the same surface as the walls...but how to bring it all together in a neat and workable way - as long as the elevator is in 2 sections this ceiling needs to be a removeable feature....but even if it could be a permanent piece I don't even know if that would make things easier or what. A tough one this.

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

Or maybe not. Got an idea...actually an idea I already had but dropped without thinking it through to its conclusion for some reason.

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

No, still not finished. Theres a lot more I need to do, hopefully not major jobs. However tonight I was finally able to give myself a teaser of how the elevator will look with the ceiling built in, nothing finalised but nevertheless its looking good.

It has a kind of mesh layer first which I will have planted over the open space created by a permanent perimeter ceiling bracketed to the walls from above (the underneath of which is the same silver card as the walls):

Then above that theres a white ceiling which they shoot through and the T-1000 ultimately oozes himself through. I'm using a thin metal tray, Platty gave me that idea:

Not sure if what I've got is exactly what he had in mind but I've tested putting puncture holes and stab holes through it and its convincing enough. This is to be painted white. I already gave it some coats underneath where it will be visible but really it needs more so I haven't focussed any photos on it. I haven't yet done any battledamage to any ceiling part either. This of course will be done and was actually a big reason for me doing the ceiling at all.

And heres pics from inside the elevator so far:

I'm going to get my brother to add another light on the other side which will also be inserted into the ceiling. So in addition to my BDing the roof (actually gonna give myself the option of BD and non BD ceiling) I need to finalise the exact positions of things, glue things down properly without gaps and so forth and find a way to hide anything unsightly. The main concern is making sure things look good from inside the elevator, then I'll work on the aesthetics outside it, looking down on it.

Oh and in the film one of the ceiling lights gets knocked down into the elevator and swings about, I'm going to try and give myself that option and perhaps put a semi-translucent cover over the lights.

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

Thanks! Brain-taxing work this dio-building. So much time is spent just sitting there staring at it trying to figure out the best way to do something and the order in which to do things.

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

Everytime I think I'm about finished I decide to do something else or to try to correct a mistake (in some cases only to replace one mistake with another). Its been fun but with some frustrations aswell.

So, still not my proper photo series but heres how its looking right now.

You might notice in the first and third pics that the corridor section and elevator section aren't flush with eachother - at the moment its on the floor, an uneven surface, they do line up properly on a hard flat surface.

I went ahead and redid the wall panels on the part of the elevator that Maxx replicas built. The foil he used had air bubbles underneath it which was spoiling the look a bit and also I wanted it to match my new walls more closely.

I added a metallic looking section between the elevator door and the actual elevator - it had just been the blue floor of the corridor and the white wall underneath there. Not a mod that I planned but I had bought some aluminum tray for something else and it had this feature on it that looked somewhat 'elevatory' so I used it. Those are the only changes I made to Maxx's work. The floor that I added over his part of the elevator is removeable, I didn't want to glue anything down on his original floor as it looks really nice in itself. Ideally I could have matched the rest of my floor to what he did but alas I didn't know what I could use.

The grey panels going all around, again I couldn't perfectly match what Maxx had done, mainly just the colour but not the texture but they're passable. Cutting them (and all the wall panels) was a pain in the arse. Glueing the stuff to the walls was an even bigger pain. Thats where I had a lot of mistakes with things glueing down in the wrong position and having to either accept them like that or redo them. I'd also get glue on my fingers and get them stuck to the panels which would leave unwanted blemishes some of which are still there on the walls....but it is an elevator, I guess not every surface needs to be perfect.

Its not super-accurate. The walls are far too reflective and the matte grey panels actually look more white in the film and were placed lower down but since the diorama overall is intended more as an impression of the hospital than a perfect replication and a huge appeal of this dio IMO was the mirrored walls of the elevator I decided to keep that. Making the walls a flat silver as in the film would maybe have been a bit boring looking.

Wow, this so win! Really looks fantastic!!! Really holy grail for T2 fan!!!

Re: Pescadero Encounter.

Thanks lads, I must say I'm pretty impressed with my part of the dio. Originally I was just gonna make a really simple thing which would only be used for purposes of a few scene recreation photos. Now Im trying, inasmuch as an amateur can, to integrate it as a permanent part of the whole diorama. Probably not doing it quite as well as Maxx Replicas would have but stll pretty good, I'm certainly not ruining it! :)

But man, I'll be relieved when its all complete. The room is an absolute mess but theres no point cleaning up till I'm finished....then I have to find my final display area for this thing. :slap

So much reflective surface its possibly hard to tell what you're looking at in some of these shots. Anyway been working on my battledamaged ceilings and cleaning up the top-down view a bit. More to be done in both areas.

The solid, flat ceiling piece is supposed to be white in the film with squared off panels represented by the white strips in the dio. Trouble is I'm now not sure if a white ceiling will look as good as I am liking this chrome metal ceiling. Do I go for accuracy or a personal preferance here? Hmmmm.

I'll be doing a new battle-damaged grill section for the ceiling. I want it to be all one piece with a hollowed out centre as opposed to multiple seperate pieces that I have right now (not in this set of pics). That way I can conveniently interchange one single non-BD mesh piece with one single BD mesh piece. Also I have yet to install the second light on the opposite side - my brother will help with that. I also still have to paint the back-side of the elevator white to match the rest of what Maxx Replica's did. I'm still not sure if I'll paint the hole punched ceilings - I did on one and it didn't work out as well as I'd have liked...and kinda just doesn't look as good as the chrome, despite the fact that white would be more accurate.

Good to hear coming from you, I know you're a dio-builder yourself. So thanks! And goodnight/morning. I'm off for what will now amount to a mere nap before work! :D
