Your honesty is not what's in question here. We know you don't like the game, you've said that...a lot. I've nothing against you man, but every so often you have to turn this thread into the "how many times Starkiller can say he doesn't like RDR thread". I don't see the point of lurking here trying to convince others not to buy or like this game. It just seems petty. Obviously you're going to do what you're going to do and I can't stop you, so have a good one.

Not so much justify mine. Because hearing from someone gushing about it wouldn't help me justify that I don't really care for it. Can you tell me why you think it's so great of a game?

The zombie DLC does interest me much more than the actual game. It looks like the game would have been much more up my alley with zombies thrown in the mix.

No I know, but you said you're looking for vindication. Seemingly to say, if you find some other person doesn't like it, you can finally rest easy, knowing someone out there feels the same as you.


I liked it because I found it to be a completely immersive world.

The characters were all entertaining and engaging (and animated extremely well, they felt like real actors sometimes).

The locations were gorgeous. I could just trot along on my horse for hours watching nature pass and marveling at approaching thunder clouds roll in.

The gameplay was really fun. It simulated what being a gunslinger might have been like. Being chased by outlaws on horse-back only to turn and blast them off their horse and see them tumble to the ground was....well a blast. I loved hunting, I'm a patient fellow so I loved setting bait and awaiting far off in the distance with my sniper rifle for that rare animal i was after. The rest (minigames/jobs etc) just added to the world to make it feel complete

The music...beautiful..perfect

and the story was emotionally engaging. I wanted to see John's journey through, and every step along the way just made me want to take more steps. The end was a wonderful, emotionally charged payoff.

That's why I like it. However, why I liked it may not, and probably won't be the same reasons you like it. If you don't like it...then you don't like it, but you shouldn't lurk around a thread and constantly reiterate that you don't like it.

I think it needed a tighter narrative and maybe free-roam sandbox wasn't the best choice for such story driven games. I always go off on side missions and the main story always takes second or third seat to just random tasks and blowing stuff up and causing chaos.

I don't like how RDR sort of made you have to be good. I think a more structured game would have gone farther, something a bit more Uncharted and MGS rather than GTA.


Oh come now snoops, with an avatar and signature like that you would have liked this game if it was Superman 64 in the west. Anyway off to bed thanks for the riveting discussion.

I felt the free roam aspect was very much needed. The old west was a world of exploration and this was perfectly represented by a "sandbox" type structure.

Also I don't really think the "morality" aspect was touted as highly as some people seem to implicate. It was just sort of there as a punishment factor. There was no real "you can play evil or good CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY", and I don't think it was really advertised as such but it was there because, well...Marsten wasn't exactly laws biggest fan and it worked alongside the story. The way John was written, as an outlaw who didn't much care for the law but needed to abide in it due to circumstances, was well placed. His rebellious nature bled through but he still had to follow along with it (to an extent) so as not to totally deny his chances of reuniting with his family.

This game is great!

Kept me interested from start to finish.

The missions and the actions you do will determine your Honour and Fame.

The weapons / Dead Eye / Ultimate revenge at the end... Brilliant!

be able to play as Marsten for a little bit longer. I won't lie: I teared up at the end of RDR. But those emotions were replaced by rage an annoyance when I realized I'd have to finish up my tasks with his ********* of a son.

But Marsten's writing and delivery are just spot on. He was enough of the "grizzled cowboy / family man" where you really empathized with him, but he was so well-written where he used just the right amount of humor to cut the dryness without being comical.

Its essentially an expansion. You can milk about 12 hours out of it. You can download it or buy a retail disc. Though i think the retail disc comes with all the dlc for RDR not just undead nightmare. Not sure what theyre trying to pull with the $60 price tag. As the undead nightmare disc retails for $29.99.

Well it's "Undead Nightmare", are you sure the it was the right game? It was either the full Red Dead, or a ticketing error, because it's definitely a $29 retail at Wal Mart.

For me, one of the things that made Nightmare such a great DLC was the stark contrast to the regular game world. In games like Left 4 Dead, or Dead Rising, you're just in a zombie-infested world. In Undead Nightmare, you just spent the past God knows how many hours playing Red Dead, and being immersed in its gorgeous western landscapes. Then when you play Nightmare, its bleak appearance is such a drastic change, that the zombie apocalypse feels that much more impacting.

I hear you on that. The only Rockstar games I've ever replayed multiple times were Bully and San Andreas. Bully is my favorite Rockstar game by far, though. I do think I will give Red Dead a replay down the line.
