It will be interesting to see what will happen with the King Kong Weta Collectibles Line now that the movie is out.

Agree about being better than Narnia...

I definitely agree about being better than Narnia! I was sorta disappointed with that one.

But Kong is just amazing. Definitely going to see it more than once.

Hoping to see this, this Saturday night with the wife. My 5 yr. old boy will be away on a sleep-over. :naughty Did it seem a little long? (3hrs. plus)

Saw Narnia, on Sunday with the family. It was (not bad), a little predictable, and a little long, but I enjoyed it.

Re

Saw the movie Kong yesterday and I was Totally blown away by it. I just loved the movie. Later this afternoon I'm going to pick up my Kong with Ann Bust:joy

I agree with you that it should certainly be nominated for Best SFX, Picture and maybe Director, but im my opinion Naomi Watts does not deserve a nomination for her role. Certainly not a peak performance in a role that would have required a lot of talent...

I may have jumped the gun a bit. I did a blind-buy of the Kong vs Rex Tower Records exclusive for $30, as well as the PJ Kong Production Diaries at Costco for $26. Hopefully I'll feel that both purchases were worth it when I watch Kong this Sunday.

Tell me I did the right thing . . . And for the record, this is the only thing I'm buying as a collectible for Kong. Just doesn't compare to LOTR, but I couldn't pass up the action that the Weta statue exudes.

The movie ist still great, I'd rate it 8.5/10, I was just saying that in my opinion Naomi Watts' performance was not Oscar worthy.

I have also ordered the Tower Kong vs. T-Rex and the Production diaries AFTER I've seen the movie, so don't be worried :D

I haven't seen it, I'm waiting for DVD. I heard it "dragged", for awhile. But for me, I seen the old ones, I already know the story, what could be so great about a remake? No one has an original idea anymore.

This is a remake, made by a fan for the fans...that's what's so great about it!?

Let's all remember that the only reason people were crying and sobbing in the screen I saw it in opening night, was because of the AMAZING chemistry that Ann and Kong had...Kong is a CG character...so how the hell did Naomi pull it off with nothing to act against except the idea that a big monkey will be there eventually!?

That's what I call acting, and she did it with such heartfelt emotion...I think she deserves that oscar whole-heartedly...I mean...can you imagine if they'd cast Reese Witherspoon or Kate Hudson? blurgh! Bring it on!

The Ice Skating scene was the best scene in the movie I reckon, I love it. I blubbered all the way through the film tho! he he. What's a PJ blockbuster without tears anyway (Gandalf's/Boromirs death in FOTR, Sam's speech at end of TTT, Theoden's death and Frodo leaving for Grey Havens in ROTK, and now KONG) :O) - I don't begrudge paying good money to see this many times!

And I bought the Tower Records collectible figure, it's very nice and compact...I have no room for anythig larger...but the only other thing I may be tempted by is the bookends.

Huh? I'm a big fan of the original Kong, and I was very disappointed with the remake. I'm in awe of PJ's knowledge/love of the original film, which is why I was so let down. I just got back about 5 minutes ago, so I'm just giving my general opinion of the film with more to follow later.

I did notice a few "Easter Eggs" to look out for whenever you watch the film (I thought these were great):

1. Carl Denham refers to Merian Cooper making a film for RKO near the beginning of the film...clever.

2. The main bugs that attack in the Spider Pit sequence are weta crickets.

3. King Kong plays with the T-Rex's jaw after he kills him exactly as he does in the '33 film. I thought that was a nice nod to O'Brien's animation.

4. The costumes of the natives on the Kong stage during the reinactment are EXACTLY as they appear in the '33 film. I really liked that.

It was above average, but seemed like a typical Hollywood "blockbuster."

My thoughts on the movie after seeing it last night:

Stunning it totally wowed me I give it a 10/10
Drag time? There was nothing that dragged for me I loved the start of the movie how he captured the feel of the era. And the rest just flowed for me.

I will be seeing this again! One of my top movies on my list

:banana

I noticed those moments and a few others (Kong's reaction on top of the ESB, etc). I agree I thought the moments of homage were great and overall this was a good film. However some things didn't sit that well with me: 1) Jimmy, what a wasted character (unless of course he reappears in the EE with some type of closure); 2) Central Park ice skating, didn't care for it at all; 3) The CONSTANT SLOW MOTION! :banghead That effect had worn itself out very quickly IMO.

Did anyone else hear Saruman's theme when the camera panned over the minature of the wall on Skull Island? :wacky

I was very happy with it when I saw it at midnight on opening night. I really thought it was a really good movie. It ranks pretty high on my list of movies that's for sure. I plan on seeing it again before my x-mas break is over.

Yep, Viking- I totally agree. Saw it for the second time today and loved it even more.

I saw Narnia and Kong, and I like Narnia more. Maybe because I never read the book and did not know what was going to happen. With Kong, I saw both of the others and it is a rehash, how can you get emotional over a plot you know like the back of your hand?

The effects were great, but it was TOO MUCH! Andy Serkis being eaten by those worms was the most disgusting thing I ever saw and it was excessive, should have been cut. I think flashing the effects just for the sake of them is poor filmmaking.

I did like Naomi Watts very much and the scenes with Kong were great. Brody was good as Driscoll, Jack Black sucked as Denham. And those natives were the ugliest humans I have ever seen.
