On A&E this Labor Day. Pretty sure this is a remake:

I watched the original 1978 movie today. It was the first time I'd seen it in at least 25 years. While it was definitely dated, it was still pretty good. I'm actully looking forward to the remake tomorrow.

I started watching it and then about half way through the sound cut out. I could hear the music and background noises (like phones ringing) but you could not hear anyone talking. It was very strange. After about 10 minutes of that, I turned it off.

I'm rewatching the episode now. It was just getting interesting when I turned it off last night.

I watched both parts; it was pretty good. I'm not sure it needed to be a mini series though. It felt like they really wanted to drive the point home that there was a conspiracy just in case we didn't already know it. After awhile I lost track of how many people were set up to be taken out of the way. :lol Actually, it felt like there were too many characters. I also thought the whole backstory and the motive of the psycho killer was unnecessary.

That being said, it was enjoyable. It's a good story, and the institute, along with Ellen Berstyn's character, were pretty creepy. It worth checking the original movie out too, if you haven't seen it. I think I caught it on HBO.

I have not seen the original...though I vaguely remember when it came out...though I was fairly young at the time.

I just finished watching it. Thought it was ok. Definitely creepy...and yeah that psycho killer storyline was unnecessary. At first I thought maybe he was the puppet of the Geena Davis character and was used to take out people they considered trouble makers (like her roommate). But then when that wasn't the case, I couldn't figure out what the point of all that was. Distracted too much from the real story.

The end was great - with the Davis character in China...and the experiments continue.....

Not a remake - both films based on the original Robin Cook book. Its been years since I read the book, but it seems like the original (directed by Crichton) was closer to the original story. Still, this version was decent, with some good acting all around. It was creepy, and some of the effects worked well. The general premise probably works better even now then it did back then, making it a bit more relevant in some ways.

And the psycho killer was her puppet - but I think he started going off the reservation toward the end. She wasn't in as much control of him as she thought.

Now it makes a bit more sense. :duff
