I had no idea either....

Hackman as Indy... just don't see it.

Hackman would make a great Quint... maybe not Brody. He also would have been a good Mayor Vaughn.
Ironically Hackman shot a week as Mr. Robinson before being fired and replaced by... Murray Hamilton, who played Vaughn. :lol

Though I do think that Vaughn's slimy and political simpleton vibe might have clashed a bit with Hackman's savvy intellectual (if slightly sinister) persona. Hamilton played those roles sooo well like in Capricorn One a couple fo years later.

How weird Hackman was Dustin Hoffman's friend and longtime roommate and had to see Hoffman explode to prominence in the same movie he got fired from, though the supporting role (and Oscar nom) in Bonnie and Clyde in same year would have softened the blow.

He would have been a great Quint and he did Lex L so wasn't against a really strong supporting role but they said "lead roles" in Jaws and Raiders, so I assume they meant Brody and Indy.

I don't see him as Indy at all as we know the character, Hackman was too contemporary in vibe for starters, but it would have tapped into Dobbs from Treasure of Sierra Madre (which Spielberg has mentioned as an influence) - a more scheming untrustworthy Indy, more like Belloq which might have been cool and more period 1930s.

My effing brother really made me angry right now when he joked that Gene's final role was as the Mummy because a portion of his remains were already mummified. "Hackman didn't do much with that role," my brother said. I canceled our breakfast which was to be this Saturday.

Hamilton in Capricorn One? One of my favorite B-movies.... you're not remembering Hal Holbrook...?
OMG brainfart - I clearly need to re-watch the terrific Capricorn One but not alone in this apparently.... :lol Next it's going to be the mayor of Amity cameo-ing as Deep Throat in All the Presidents Men... oh wait... :rotfl

Definitely a Joe Lo Truglio/Thomas Lennon situation (still convinced those two are the same person.)

No arrests yet…

Remember in 2009 in NY when that ex-stripper swore to god that she had nothing to do with her millionaire husband’s death and it turned out she had his face bashed in with barbells while she watched laughing and then during the trial she said she was disgusted by his Batman collection lol

When lots of money is involved anything goes!

Damn, you think an ex-stripper would be okay with a Star Wars collection?

Asking for a friend.

Now remember, she had his skull bashed in with dumbells! :horror

“The country's second-largest Batman memorabilia collection which was stolen from South Florida warehouses last month has been found, and it wasn't the Catwoman.

It turns out the wife of slain millionaire Ben Novack Jr. took the collection herself, and she says the toys aren't going anywhere.

"It belongs to Narcy Novack. She was married to him for 19 years," lawyer Howard Tanner told the Miami Herald. "It was purchased during their marriage. Wouldn't you rightfully assume the property belongs to you?"

The collection, enough to fill two Batcaves, is at the center of Narcy Novack's bitter battle with her daughter, May Abad, over the estate of her slain husband.”

It's not about the money, it's about sending a message FOR SURE.

RIP Gene, truly one of the greats, never a bad performance.

WTH ... I never heard this story. In 2009... it's still not settled...?

I hadn't either. Somehow. Looked it up today and it's as horrifying as described.

An eye-opener for those of us that are married and own comic book collectibles and gym equipment. :horror

Better get rid of at least one of those three things because the combination can be deadly, apparently. :lol
