Learning lesson for all the "premature E" ones ;) ...
Never judge too early... NEVER... I have been fighting from day one for people to give the movie a chance...

As far as what the original offered this new remake absolutely was "needless." That can't be denied. However the reboot was still a well done and entertaining film.

It was entertaining at times, I wish they never
did the sedation of Murphy to make him more like a robot, I loved the film up until that point, that part of the film was just boring because I felt invested into Murphys plight of no longer being human in the traditional sense and once you took Murphy out of the film I lost interest in that segment, but it was great when he came back and I did like the end.
To much Novak in the middle of the movie also for my taste. I loved the silver suit though, that was a thing of beauty.

I wouldn't say "needless." A needless remake is one like Psycho that is the same story but with different actors and in color. This was a reboot - reimagining the characters and the concept for a modern audience. They brought something new to the table which is what a good reboot should do - ala Batman Begins.

I would. If a film's message is dated, or the film as a whole is antiquated, then sure. The TCM remake as well as the Amityville remake did a good job of bringing an older story to a newer generation. RoboCop isn't in a position to need either. The story isn't dated in the least and the social issues brought up in the film are arguably more valid now than they were when the movie was released. Hell, if you "Lucased" just a handfull of things in the film, a modern day audience would be hard pressed to guess the film's damn near 30 years old.

Bulls eye! ...

Just saw this tonight. I didn't have high expectations as I walked in expecting to only enjoy some good CG and action scenes. However, the movie was far better than I expected. As many mentioned, I thoroughly appreciated the direction and execution of the human element. I didn't pay too much attention to the publicity, if any, this movie was receiving so I was surprised to see a few well known cast members. I remember people complaining about the "suit", I thought the suit looked amazing in this movie. They managed to squeeze in the theme song, some nostalgic lines, and Samuel L Jackson's closing speech :lol

It also was kind of cool to see Keaton and Oldman together. Batman and Commissioner Gordon from 2 different Batman franchises.
