On topic though, I wonder what their motivation was for making the alternate portrait identical except for the hair, would have been nice to have a different look. Sideshow needs to sell alternate portraits separately for people who don’t like the ones they come with, they would make a lot of money especially off people on the fence because of it.

Can’t. Not in the license

On their live show they said time & budget constraints lead to the one portrait.

Budget constraints on a statue that is identical to premium formats but costs 150 dollars more, makes sense....

They could easily sell generic heads that fit most statues without naming them and get around this, it wouldn’t work for some like Gamora, Iron Man, Hulk etc since they are unique but for ones like Psylocke, Rogue, Emma Frost, X-23 they easily could.

Yea it's too bad they do the same head/diff hair deal so often now. They used to do completely separate portraits. Would have been nice for a statue that costs over $700 amirite?

That’s not how it works at all :lol

Yep, alternate portraits. Sideshow already have whatever licence is needed for her 90s hair but are being lazy by using the same face sculpt

Depends on their cadence. It really could be due to time if they are giving artists less time to crank out more content. It probably has more to do with greed than laziness:lol

Selling generic alternate portraits that have the ability to fit most of their statues without actually having names or ways they are tied to a characters IP isn’t against any kind of licensing and acting like you know it all without any kind of knowledge or proof just make you look like a child.

Don’t start with me. I was probably doing this **** while you were sucking on your mama’s teet

Even if the licence did permit such production pieces, it would be highly impractical given that every statue is different. In how the head connects, if it comes seperate at all, if it detaches from the base of the head or the neck, the sizes of said heads and necks are not consistent, not all statues have the same skin tones (and even the same statues but in different batches can come out quite different). And the list goes on.

Given that most pieces are now digitally sculpted, it would be easier to perform, but again I just don't see it ever happening.

For Hot Toy figures etc it works as they mostly use the same group of bodies, but statues are quite another matter entirely.

And given that each statue must be approved by the licensor before they can be sold to the public, I would assume that any such item or head in this case that can materially alter one of their approved statues would again have to be given additional approval by the licensor, which I doubt would be possible, especially if the head in question is interchangeable with other statues.

I think you are looking for a “Mr Potatoe Head” sir. Isle 6.

I've been waiting for what seems almost forever, but the regular is finally up for preorder from Popcultcha (Australia).

I'll be placing my preorder tonight. This and the Thor weren't priced as I was hoping, but given the slight drop in the Aussie dollar it's not surprising. But I'm still saving a bit by ordering locally as it would probably cost me an additional 40-50% if I were to order the regular direct from Sideshow.

And for any Aussies remember you've only got 3 weeks for the 10% early preorder discount, which can be stacked with any member discounts you have.
