Anyone able to say why the most criticised shf figure, the stormtrooper, is the most expensive to buy used?

Ugh! Debated getting that at $55. Decided against it because it was too much for such a basic figure. Now it goes for $80-$90, last I checked

Still don't get why the Scout Trooper is such much money. Gotta figure the Scout Trooper alone is $60. So you have to pay an extra $125 for the speeder bike?

Same reason as with all popular figuarts; its no longer readily available. Doesnt matter how much criticism it gets, people still want it, and its now no longer buyable from tamashii.

The best example on this is SDCC 2011 figuarts Goku from dbz. Its literally just a repaint, but because its old and will never be reissued it has reached ludicrous price levels on ebay.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine paying the price demanded for that figure. I wish they would come out with a new SSJ Goku (No battle damage) built to the same standards as the Super Awakening figure.

It's because it's a Tamashii web exclusive and not regular release. The exclusives always cost more, been a pain since I'd been collecting robot spirits from Gundam 00 and half that line was Web exclusives.

Though if I learned anything from that, it's if you want the scout, get him before release, the prices will rise faster than normal figuarts once it's sold out everywhere, and 0 chance of a reissue.

Honestly despite accuracy issues with the helmet, forearms and belt, and the limited forward motion in the hips, it's still the best 6" Stormtrooper that isn't a model kit.

I have to say, after impulse-buying one following a binge-watch of the OT with a friend, it's actually a pretty underrated figure. Helmet looks more acceptable in-hand and it can still strike some good poses. My biggest complaints are lack of a hip holster and no pistol or heavy blaster as a second accessory. I wouldn't pay more than $50 for one, though.

How about the clone trooper guys? What do you think of it? Im thinking if i should get one or not. They're back on stock in hobby stores here.

FO stormtrooper is way better than the OT one. Phasma however sux. My one anyway, slight paint rub onto the cape. Loose shoulder pads that keep falling off and hands that don't support the firearm. The belt bits are cool though. And the heels actually make the feet better than the FO. I think the clones are the best. Not glossy like the other two, but has an additional rifle, and seems to have slightly better range in articulation. Of the OT, I still like the Mafex the most, but he falls apart pretty easily. I just can't unsee that droopy Figuarts helmet.

As for the exclusive speederbike set, the speederbike will be sold with Luke, Leia or on its own then, as with the scout trooper. This line is far too big for them to call that set done. They will come up with a way to bring it out again. The samurai got reissued, and there's even rumours of HT reissuing. Everyone has totally under estimated the demand for Star Wars. And with us collectors moving into photography and army building, we are just enabling everyone else that googles these things.

If you like the Phase 1 Clones (I do), they're fantastic. Get two.

The best trooper from Figuarts thus far is the FO Trooper by a mile, though.

Yep i agree. Im thinking of getting another FO trooper instead of phasma

Yeah, I did in fact hunt down another FO the very next day after receiving him. It's that good.

Haha an hour after my last reply, i saw one last FO trooper in a hobby store here for 50 dollars. (converted from philippine peso)

Left me no choice [emoji23]

Hey fellas. Just ordered ROTJ Luke. I agree with the black series talk. Imo, the only decent thing to come out of the black series was this mold of Han in carbonite. This is a casting of the SDCC Han that I bought off ebay and painted myself. My plan is to build a diorama of Jabba's palace and give him a proper home. Cheers.

Oh! and I wanted to share this article. Great interview with Adam Newman from bluefin. This is a good read for new collectors who want to learn about tamashii nations, and also has some interesting info for old collectors as well. In it, Adam says this:

"...If we are looking competitors or even collaborators, we look at people like Neca as a competitor in the same category but we don’t look at traditional toys in the same way, as the product specification differs. While an adult may buy a Star Wars blister from the black series or a Marvel action figure meant for mass retail, we don’t view companies like Hasbro or Mattel as being in the same category as us. So in that sense it’s important for us to act as separate entity within Bandai, as we’re working in a very specific market category.”

The BS aren't in the same category just as Adam Newman says but they can be decent placeholders for characters that aren't out yet or for army building purposes.

Im curious why a few of you think the clone is the best? Isnt it the most restricted, articulation-wise?

Not dissing anyone, I mean I know it looks good, but its one figure I dont plan on getting because of the bad reviews regarding articulation.

The limitations on articulation are movie-accurate, so to speak. It was a point of the designs that the Kaminoans didn't fully understand human ergonomics, leading to joint restrictions in the armour. The only major restriction on the figures is the elbows not going further than 90 degrees, by accident or design you can pull the hips a few millimetres down on their thigh swivel for more leg range. They're better than the OT Trooper but not quite as good as the FO Trooper in the posability stakes.

Then there's the fact that they just look beautiful. They have a lovely flat eggshell white finish, accurate to the Episode II production maquettes, really clean helmet paint apps, and great texturing on the undersuit - and they come with both standard and heavy blaster rifles. All in all they're very movie-accurate and look fantastic.

Ah, ok, thanks for the explanation man! I guess the only thing keeping me from buying now is the helmets; was always an ep3 clone fan myself, so if tamashii make an ep3 501st or utapau clone I may end up buying them [emoji14]
