This seems to be the heart of the problem to most debates on collectible forums. For some reason a lot of collectors take negative criticism of a product they have interest in or have purchased as a negative reflection on themselves. It's like if I got offended every time my wife was disgusted when I ate Taco Bell. We would never have gotten married. :p
Well I find this very offensive... Taco Bell aren't real tacos.

Well, for me...i'm just happy that we're living in an age where chewie, han, luke, etc, are not as buff as WWE wrestlers.

(don't get me wrong, i loved that kenner figure back then lol)

The hard tortillas in Taco Bell tacos have a terrible sculpt and paint, they have nothing on street stand Tacos.

Yeah but the articulation on street stand tacos are severely lacking. Plus I enjoy the predictable effect Taco Bell has on the stomach. Finish a meal and be on throne 30 minutes later. Dem street stand tacos are wild cards. Don't know when you'll have to go and don't know how severe the problem will be.

Lol at adding shipping and conversion to the price and then comparing it to $20 BS. (or worse clearance BS)

This figure is $48 in Japan. Maybe even less, i can only go by what the online retailers charge. Anyone from Japan want to chime in and tell us how much it costs at Toys R Us go right ahead.

We aren't even suppose to be having these outside of the paid for market. Hasbro has been cool in not trying to put the clamps down.

Anyway.. $20 vs. $48 from now on eh?

Toys R Us charges about $40 based on the current value of yen to the dollar. Getting figures online is slightly cheaper most of the time. If you don't mind rolling the dice and waiting (and hoping for a figure not to sell out), you can get them even cheaper. Amazon is selling Jango Fett for $25.73 when it was MSRP $55.58 on release. Most, but definitely not all, of the figures in the line can still be purchased for under $40 here at the moment.

I feel like Jango is one of the most underrated figures in the line. Aren't people buying him for the great price for Mandalorian customs?

It might be $48 in Japan, but, that's more often than not if you happen to be in Japan. Most of us have to import them. Yeah some do offer free shipping and are vague about how they declare them, and if you go that route you can get hit for fees when they reach customs. But, to get them quickly, you often have to pay and it can cost depending on where you are. There are retailers in the UK that do the importing for you, but, by the time you add import fees and VAT you are looking at over £60.

As 2 great nations have proved, N Korea and Russia, a deciding opinion that everyone else has to agree with, works best. I gratefully and humbly accept this role on this thread. I will make a final comment on all new figure releases. SHF Chewie is 7.5 out of ten. Black series is 6.5

I think you missed my point but that is ok. If Hasbro didn't have a hold on the license these would retail in your country for $40 or less according to DjB up there^ and my own opinion. We choose to pay more by importing the figures and as you mentioned sometimes a lot more. That shouldn't be considered when comparing figure to figure for arts sake. But if you must, use the MSRP to be fair.

In this case $20 vs. $40.

After all i believe Hasbro products go for a lot more in Japan. Correct me if i am wrong but i believe it's like our situation here but only flipped. Meaning a BS figure costs a lot more there.

edit:

Link doesn't appear to be working. Go to Amazon Japan and shop BS.

Totally agree. Shipping should not be included on one figure in a comparison of price if you dont pay for it on the other, same as you shouldnt compare a hand painted custom to a base figure, thats just common sense, sorry. In both aspects you give an unfair advantage to the cheaper figure.

If we REALLY want to continue comparing two figure series that, imo shouldnt even be in the same room let alone display, then lets keep it fair eh?

Example:

BS Chewie BASE paint job and detail

maxresdefault.jpg

Figuarts Chewie BASE figure details and head sculpts

(I included both as there is two BS chewies out there for fairness)

I know which I prefer. Figuarts is a far more nature, real looking paint job, and the joints allow more dynamic movement, plus they should be something you expect from the company by now. Sure, put them side by side and figuarts looks tiny, but how many of you realize that the BS is too tall even for the BS Han? BS Chewies height is far more out of scale than figuarts.

Nice pics and 100% agreed the shf looks far better than the Hasbro both in terms of movie accuracy and as a figure.

The Figuarts ****s on the BS, it's not even on the same level. It just makes it look so cheap and the face is so much better. It's cheaper for a reason

We could go round in circles here for weeks, let's just agree to disagree and hope that SHF bring something else out and quick so we can move on.

wouldn't it be easy to make SHF abit taller via building up bottom of feet abit?

What is the consensus on picking up the 40th Leia and Obi Wan vs holding out hope for an SH version?

Shipping should be considered when comparing prices.

I can get the BS figures for less than $20, and the SHF not for less than $60 shipped from AmiAmi or HLJ, shipping is part of my cost. But if someone in Nihon can close in the price gap between the 2 because the BS is more expensive there, and draw a different conclusion, that's valid too, it doesn't have to be a universal thing.

Only you know your own cost:value ratio.

Now, aftermarket prices are a whole different topic.
