Why Bandai?!

Edit- Weird, even the sculpt of the hair is significantly worse and simplified. Pretty disappointed as this was my most anticipated figure.

Yikes. Hair does look like a new sculpt, especially left of the part. I expected the face to be a lower quality than the prototype, but not the hair. Hmm....doesn't bode well for the eventual ANH Leia. Hoping he looks much better in-hand, like farmboy Luke did.

No.. no it's not. It will surely look better with top down lighting, but the facial features are painted smaller, chin is much bigger due to poor placement. Hair sculpt is totally different. Look back and forth at the two pictures. It's the sculpt and the paint. This is one of their worst facial prints in the star wars line. Hopefully this is a particularly bad sample, but it's on display.. I know it will look 'good' in hand. It just won't look anywhere near the early samples.

edit-Here's a second, differently posed Han figure from the same display. The lighting here is flash-free. Definitely looks better, but you can see the fuzziness of the face, hair sculpt, and overall drop in quality. It will still be the best 6" Han, I'm just a bit disappointed. I checked more pictures of the early displays, and I can see it had crisply painted eyes and details, more tones in the skin. So I guess all of the other figures ended up with the slightly fuzzy printed faces, but I may try and touch this one up using early production pics as a model. It just looks a lot nicer with the eyes more defined/darkened around the edges.

Han looks like Tim Robins from Shawshank.

Hmm I don't see Tim Robins from Shawshank at all.

I see what i always see with the SHF human characters. A significant drop from the proto but still awesome in hand that will mostly photograph poorly due to tech. I say mostly because we have some pros out there.

Damn fellas wait til it actually comes out. Sure it's never gonna look like the prototypes but the final production figure will probably look fine in hand. Pictures can only capture so much

I think the Han looks fine, same as Boyega. Is it 1:1 the excact same face as the actor? No but it's damn close for a figure in that price range and since the figure is way smaller then the photos and with the equipment people have at home, it will look fine later on.

Remember Mace Windus faces and how everyone was crying disaster? Then the figure came out annnnnddd..... it was fine.

Honestly folks, you need to stop expecting the universe with every release, Han will come out fine in hand and it wont be mentioned again. That is clearly lighting and a weird photo angle affecting the sculpt, we have seen it all before.

I also see zero difference in the hair sculpt, just different gold highlight. I see the same lines in the same places. Oh and fyi, the third pic is the same figure as pic 2 in better lighting, you can tell from the hairs highlights which are identical.

Yes I mentioned 3rd pic is same as 2nd with normal lighting. There were actually 2 Hans in different poses in same display, so that is a variation and also looks like it was printed slightly better. I think the hair bugs me the most. I may do a wash to even it out. Holster looks a little plain as well. We'll see in hand. I agree that it will be the best Han in this scale and price point either way.

Given the way the paint is applied, I've had figures look radically different on my own shelf depending on time of day. And I do notice a little bit of variance from sample to sample, so overall I wouldn't worry too much. It was never going to look like the proto, but I think it'll be great at normal, physical viewing scales.

I *could* be wrong, because I've seen flatter and more disappointing apps by SHF on certain releases, but I feel SW has been pretty good and hope it'll remain that way.

Digital photography always weirds out the 3D prints on the faces. But the analog eyes we have makes it all better :)
My Obi and Luke look really odd when I took my photos but when I hold them and look at them it is like Mini Ewan and Mini Mark in my hand. I have no doubt Han will be the same.
And hey if not, just get a ibmmt or OldBoy head :bow

And just as an odd thought, has anyone tried running a SHF figure head into a facial recognition software to see if it ID's the person? That would tell you how good the likeness is :yess:

Lighting makes camera shots, even close ups appear completely different..I see the same sculpt in both pics.

Nothing wrong :dunno

Just release Han already :lecture

Han will be so good as the previous figures. No more, no less. Don't try to see a downgrade with every new release.
The only one that came significantly worse than the proto is AOTC Obi-Wan. This will not happen anymore. SHF means high quality control.

The speeder bike that came with my Scout Trooper is annoying the hell out of me. I've had it for almost a year, and all of a sudden the bike is pointed all the way up. I can't pose the bike anymore. Anybody have this problem?

The socket isn't that tight and loosens over time.

While heat and cold water can bring it back, it's temporary.

I used a half-centimetre piece of black twist tie (very fine wire with flat black plastic coating) as a shim and it LOCKS the bike in an arrow-straight position.

Just don't force it or overdo it to avoid warping the socket completely.

There's so much potential for this line of figures, I'd love to see an Emperor Palpatine, some Royal Guards and some sandtroopers!

Oh man. Royal guards would be great. Also from a business standpoint as you know everyone would get at least 2.

Oh no. Latest pictures of Han not looking so hot. The face is significantly worse than the prototype. Looks really lo-res and eyes and facial features are tiny. Here are pictures comparing the earlier displays to the newest one dated 2/9. This is clearly the production figure. Makes me want to touch it up to make it closer to the prototype but worried about ruining it even more. Even the hair looks quite a bit worse, like spaghetti almost.

It's happened to every figure using this technique that they've put out. The production paint never looks as good as the prototype. These things usually look better in hand though. We'll see.
