Really enjoying the pics you guys have posted.

Has anyone here made custom pauldrons for their sandtroopers? I've been trying my darndest to round up some extra Sideshow ones to customize my Marmits but haven't had much luck.

Would like to see what others have done if they've made their own.

Thanks!

I have thought many times about copying SS storm trooper pauldrons, just haven't had the time yet. But I will need a few for myself, so it will happen eventually, but its still a ways off yet.

Hey Vivisect,

Glad to hear you might be making some of these. How far off are you from making some, and what do you think the price would be?

Thank you much.

To be honest I have no idea what a price would be, but likely far cheaper than a SS one goes for on eBay and such, especially when it comes to shipping, but it's at least 2-3 weeks till I even work up a prototype, but who knows, I have bought a lot of stuff that has made things go much faster for me in the last 2 weeks.

Anyhow, first I really wanna work on and finish some of the stuff that I has been pushed back for too long, because some of it has a long list of interested people that have been waiting on it for some time.

Sounds good. Whenever you're ready I'll be here. Looks like there might be a few of us anxious to get some. I'd take 5-6 myself.

Thanks a bunch!

I got a nice suprise in the post today from the Snow Corp. Even when he is trying to take it easy, Mark still has time to help others. Mark was kind enough to cast a few Marmit Sandtrooper buckets and send them across the pond.

I couldnt wait to get started. I grabbed a Sandie, sprayed him and began to weather him. He is not done yet, but I told Mark today that I would post some pictures. Here is a shot of him so far.

Here is a comparison of mine with the factory Sandtrooper...

The Marmit buckets are superior to SSC's in my opinion. I really like how it looks with SSC's armor.

Mark, thanks again mate. I cant tell you how much I appreciate you getting these out to me so quickly when I know you aren't 100%.

Cheers mate!! :clap

Had a couple of troopers I recently finished... well, for the most part. Wanted to see what you guys thought. They're a Marmit armor/Sideshow body and head mix with bits from Hasbro and Dragon. Found much of what I used at Toy Anxiety and War Toys.

When the GI Joe bad guys came out, I found my perfect match. I'd always imagined the sandtroopers wearing a hood and mask to protect their heads and faces, as well as some sort of goggles to interface with the helmets. I'm still trying to decide which type I like better. The red ones seemed more along what I had imagined, but when I put the old style tank ones on they looked pretty cool as well.

A good buddy of mine provided me with the gun and proper scopes to build my own sandtrooper rifle, all well before the Sideshow one was ever released. As you can see, he was pretty much spot on. I'm going to put it together real soon. I just don't want to jack it all up. I don't have the best of skills. And as we all know, girls like guys who have skills. Anyhow, I'll post a picture when I finish.

There's another shot of the ammo pouch I converted some to make the one the first trooper has on. In case any of you were curious.

I think they look great :clap i really love the masks n goggles underneath great idea. I also done some wep mods exactly like that yrs back, they look good when done n painted.

Thanks, C'Bob. I'm excited to get to put it together finally so I can show him. Can't have him thinking I didn't appreciate the gift... even if it is years after the fact.

marmits are the bomb................great work D2..............:clap

I LOVE your shots... I to am a marmit fan! I just think they are great.
Your weather is stunning I would love to see some more shots and close up plus a idea of how you did the weathering...

Great work and great pics.

:)

Thanks a bunch Barryo and Dorgmal. The Sandtroopers are pretty much my SW hobby focus so customizing some of them has been a lot of fun.

Yeah, the Marmits are great. The helmet is just the best there is in the 1/6 scale arena. The rest of the armor is outstanding as well. But I like the Sideshow hands, feet, pauldron, pouches, and belt better so I changed all those out. The bodies I used are the Sideshow GI Joe prometheus type.

The weathering was pretty simple. I used nail polish remover to remove the original paint apps. It was hard to get it all off, but I didn't mind leaving a few dirty smudges. Then I painted the troopers using earth tone watered down acrylic washes, wiped down, and repeated numerous times. I sanded some areas with a fine sandpaper as well, to help the colors take and give the armor more of a worn look. After all the washes and wipe downs some areas seemed to be a bit too dark, so I added a whitewash coat and that seemed to help.

For the mike tips and a few places here and there on the armor I used the Tamiya weathering kits. They're great but the colors rub off easily so you have to be careful when handling, or just ready to apply more if you want. I think maybe some spray on clear coat would help the colors stay, but I haven't tried using it yet.

This was my first effort at this kind of stuff, so I pretty much figured it out as I went along. The troopers look OK from a distance, but I'm still not entirely happy with them. One of these days I'll figure out how to work an airbrush and then add a bit more detailing - sand and dust and whatnot.

Dorgmal - how do I attach big pictures instead of thumbnails?

Desert2. those do look great, thanks for the tutorial and closeup pictures. I also have thought about doing a hood or mask for one of my troopers.

I agree, the Marmit buckets are the best. I do like SSC's armor better though.

Dorgs was kind enough to cast the Marmit buckets for me. I added them to repainted SSC armor and there you go. The perfect Sandtrooper in my opinion.

Those are nice, Chakaman. Very well done.

I need to redo the dirt paint apps on my Sideshow troopers. Hopefully then they'd look as good as yours. I'd probably gain a better appreciation for their armor then as well. I just don't like how it sits all loose on the skinny trooper bodies they use. It is easier to pose, however, so there might be some reasoning to it.

Yeah, I sprayed all my troopers white. I then used pastels/chalk for the weathering and then sealed everything in dullcoat.
