I'd imagine the batteries goes into the bottom of the base. The base has functional light-ups as well.

That one came out nicely. No googly eyes.

I like seeing the double sided lightsaber in cold cathode. It lights up brightly compared to the Maul PF with the older tech.

Indeed. I'd imagine some will not notice that light from the base. I missed it myself when the first batch of pics of the proto were released.
