Well, it could be good or bad. It makes me sad that the ONLY one who is brave enough to be Cornelius (my neighbor) is too ill. He's like 10 minutes away, and I can't impose on him.

I have a PHotobucket or Imageshack account that I upload photos to, grab the image codes to post.

We have like...20 people in the house right now. Is it rude of me to be online?

Sticks--I just saw your 1:6 work. Incredible stuff. I really loved seeing the gorillas by the campfire. So freaking awesome. I want to see more!

There were credits on the Figure It Out contest.

Thank you for letting me know what you liked. I really appreciate you and Kfog coming through. It really means a lot to me. That's great news about the credits. Sometimes I even amaze myself. I wonder when I added them? :lol

Angel, Thank you so much my friend. It is very cool of you to help me out. It will be fun finding out what I can do with them. How has work been going for you?

Ok, so I just got done watching the remastered version of Conquest on Blueray. I liked it, it also contained the extended version which we watched. The movie gets better everytime I watch it.!

I live like 15 min away from Matt Sotis.. Who knew..lol

Let me ask a question, Basically if I want to do a Caesar, using the head...am I buying a Hasbro body, Sideshow, or other? Also are the Hasbro & Sideshow line close in size? I want to go slow and do it right.

Thanks..

Sixx - Keep on the lookout (using eBay) for "red jump suit joe" or "red jumpsuit joe". Try searching both ways because you'll get different results and hits.

The red GI Joe jumpsuits generally sell between $7- $14 on eBay.

When painting the gorillas boots red, I always use Americana Acrylic Paint. [DA199 Primary Red Rouge primaire]

I'll dig up some pictures so you can get a "feel" for the end result.

Stickman - I'll email you all those pictures you've been wanting of ape city. I just pulled them from my son's external hard drive.

Thanks for the info my friend! Do you go with Sideshow or hasbro bodies?

this is a test--adding attachments. Angel--it looks like i was able to upload attachments no problem.

Sixx--I have some Sideshow bodies. Most of my apes were going to be on Sideshow ape bodies (they run smaller) but perhaps I will use up whatever complete bodies I can salvage from my piles to recreate the tribunal orangutans. I've just go so many unfinished projects it's pathetic.

If you see Matt Sotis tell him I said hi. We haven't heard from him in awhile. I know he is working on Snick's Icarus. Every time someone needs gorilla toes for their 1:1 scale boots (gorilla costumes), or 1:1 scale hieroglyphs, I send them over to him. I heard he was selling a lot of his rare ape photographs, too.

Angel--I just saw your post regarding the appropriate sized drill for the neck plug. Never thought to do it that way!

It's been raining nonstop here for days. I love the rain but it sucks for Dylan's science fair project, which is about a solar-powered boat. Hopefully the sun will shine soon--we need it before it's due on January 11 or we are SOL.

Sticks -I've been on vacation for the last week and I've been loving every moment! Gosh it's nice sleeping in, staying up late, and not having to do ANYTHING. The last week I've had no worries, or concerns. Just a lot of chilling out. Work is good, but it's the complete opposite.

I always loved Conquest. I think Roddy was really awesome in that one. As a kid it was always my fave for some reason. Maybe because this film was so different and in the present time? Now that all the violence was edited back in, I don't ever watch the original theatrical version. Love the gorilla with the flamethrower and all the carnage!

Isn't it a small world? Here you are and you even know Matt! Do you Snickertown as well?

It's really all up to you to decide what you like. Some would disagree with me on this, and I understand, but I stick solely with the Sideshow figures. I modify these to my liking and on some occassions I'll actually use a human body made by Dragon when I cast extra ape heads. Dragon bodies are very inexpensive and of high quality. Hasbro ape bodies are certainly much BIGGER, and IMO their heads and clothing are lacking by comparison. I simply don't have the room for these and sold all mine long ago. Many folks here use them as "background" apes in their collections.

I'll give it another shot then Jessica. I rebooted my computer and that certianly didn't help out yesterday. Hopefully, attaching pictures works today. Thanks for trying that and for letting me know.

Something must be seriously wrong with my PC. When I click on "manage attachments" nothing happens. Nothing at all. I'm unable to attach photos and I'm puzzled by this.

Hi Jess & Angel,

Some quick questions. After thinking about it, Im thinking I'm going to stay with Sideshow, and when funds are available maybe treat myself to a hot toys one day.

In terms of extra figures, Angel, I like your suggestion of using Dragon bodies. As I think it would be cool to put the apes in different situations. Are these the dragon bodies you talk of. And..is this a good source for Dragons.

Lastly, in regards to putting "heads" on sideshow bodies, do the heads firmly attach or they just lay on for display only. Meaning, the orginal heads stay on, etc, would the custom heads just "sit"

Are there any places to get headless sideshow figures?

I think I want to start with making a Conquest Caesar, and I would like to apes to go along with it in the red jump suit. Where can I source out knives, butcher knives, etc..

I would also like to get Julius as well. Love that scuplt. I believe Jess has both. How is the frontline head as well?

Sorry for all the questons..

Sixx--Angel has Ricardo Montalban, too.

I never ordered the Frontline head, but I hear you need to modify the neck cause it's long. Ironman would know. But that's a really great sculpt. Very accurate gorilla, even with a half closed eye. I know that Matt fixed his to have both eyes open. That's what I remember.

Small world, isn't it? Hi Matt!

Oh...umm...Charles Hughey gave me a great idea by adding neodymium magnets to the neck plug and headsculpt. They pop on and off. I will have to try it someday. I gave him my suckey Burke sculpt (woof woof by the way), and he attached it to a SS body for me. Burke is a very hard likeness. I'm still bothered I can't get it right, but someday I will. I shall persevere!

Hello Everyone,

Since I was alittle boy, I've loved "my" apes. Being a child of the 70's I wore the costumes on Halloween & played with all the toys. Up until 10 Years ago, I had a very large collection of megos, sets, posters, etc. Some really hard to find items.

Unfortunately, I lost everything in a house fire. It took me almost 10 years to get over the dreams, and sentimental value that my collection had.

I came here, cause I saw what a tight ape loving family there is here!

At this stage in the game I am a newbie, but I do know what I like. If any of you can lead me in the correct path it would be great.

I would like to get some custom Sideshow soilders. Around 3. So if anyone has extra, please advise. I would also like a General Ursus as well. One of you guys had a cigar smoking ape, I must have that!. That is by far my favorite right now. I love General Ursus & Caesar.

I saw one of you guys had a backback solider for sale. Hit me up with your extras.

For now the hot toys are out of my budget. I see that they are like $200 apiece? So I have to stick with Sideshow & Hasbro.

Any good sources for "un" customized apes?

Also, the heads that I see being made, can the old heads pop off, and the new one can go right on?

Sorry for all the questions. Happy New Year!
Welcome to the jungle Sixx. The Hot Toys can still be found for $120 or so. Shopping around is definitely a necessity. The custom heads usually need at least slight modification to use.
The frontline head, I see it on there price sheet. Does that fit on the Sideshow Body or Hasbro body. Also it says comes ready for dragon neck post or can be Modified to a Sideshow neck is easy and can be done upon request. So If I want this for a sideshow, I have to tell them?
I believe the Frontline sculpt can be made to fit Dragon or drilled to fit a BBi/TTL/HT type neck. Most necks that fit Dragon can easily fit Sideshow with minimal effort.

I haven't seen too many headless Sideshow bods through retailers.
Extra bodies are always useful and there are many companies that are out there to fill that need.
Dragon's are relatively inexpensive, easy to find and usually dependable.
It all depends on what you want.
I like my gorillas a little more "muscled" for some of my customs. For them I'll use Twisting Toyz [which also are the easiest fit to accept Hasbro heads if thats what you're into], or BBi G3.5's. They take a bit of "modding" sometimes but I like the body.
TTL has a variety of bodies made to fit varying types of sculpts. The price varies but usually starts around $14. Soldier story has a body with a non chageable neck, but I think they look great for chimps. They are thin and lanky and work well for that.
And I forgot, where abouts do you live in Jersey, Sixx?

Sixx - When I use the Dragon bodies I tend to get the NUDE ones like this $9.99 one at Monkey Depot. (see below link) Search for them on eBay as well using "Dragon Nude" to compare prices and look for a good deal.

I tend to mount all my custom heads using an apoxie sculpt. It's a 2 part substance with a very "claylike" consistency. You mix equal quantites of part A and part B and when it dries, it becomes rock hard within 24 hours.

Picture this: I first remove the human head from the Dragon figure. On top on the Dragon neck post I then make a very small cone (to elongate the neck) and adhere it firmly to the neck post. Once that upside down cone dries, the cone becomes very hard.

Once the cone is hard, I then take some more apoxie sculpt and now fill the cavity within the ape head that I want to mount. I immediately stick them together. Once that dries, it's mounted very well. The head will turn and swivel because the Dragon post allows this. :)

Here's the apoxie sculpt that Jessica and I use.
