i usually enjoy fairy tales from different perspectives (like wicked) or re-imaginings (like some of atwood's novels or sexton's poetry), but this one was a bit lacking -- it veered too far from the source and really didn't have anything of it's own to offer, if that makes sense -- conceptually it seemed much cooler than the execution, imho.
