Tool also prefer the physical album as opposed to the digital download. THats why they arent available for purchase anywhere online.
When their last album came out Adam Jones said he missed the days of cherishing the actual album art and how its art connects with the music, and thats why they built in the Stereoscope lenses/images into the 10,000 Days CD packaging....

Yeah, this comes from perusing Itues after a severely long stint of ignoring it's presence. I was looking for a rare album that can no longer be purchased but all I see are people begging for iTunes to release things as singles so that they can leave the rest of the project to trash. Nver found my rare album. Seems they only include best sellers. Joke.

:lol

What is it that you're looking for?

Pink Floyd & Tool albums are all like one long song.

I don't mind the digital revolution, because now I can go to the swap meet and get used CD's for $1-$2. I too like to have a hard copy that I then move over to my PC. Since I don't like much of the newst stuff being released, cheap used CD's are great for me. My CD collection currently has 900+ discs.

Im an iTunes nut.
Dont forget Rory, youre not limited to songs purchased online for iTunes, you can also import.

My iTunes library at work alone is almost 7800 songs at this point. And Iv even cleared some out on occasion ....

I'm definitely old school, and will continue to buy CDs. I already have over 3,500 in my collection (I stopped counting long ago, so it could be up near 4,000). Some habits are hard to break.

And as much as everyone hates ebay, I found it to be one of the best places to find cheap discs if you're looking to buy back catalog titles.

Yep - first thing I did with Itunes was import a ton of my physical CD's into it. Also, it doesn't take much to get around itunes assinine policies. :naughty

That's cool about the concept albums with the progressive bands, maybe I should check some of those guys out! I remeber the good old Pink Floyd & Rush albums that were all one big story. On the more hardcore side, Voivod had some crazy sci-fi based concept albums!

I'm an album guy rather than a playlist guy, but I haven't bought a CD in years. iTunes and Amazon downloads all the way. I don't understand why you would spend so much more money and create so much more waste by purchasing a CD rather than just press the "purchase album" button.

if you like heavy metal and campy concept albums check out Devin Townsend- Present Ziltoid the Omniscient ... its hilariously fun to listen too ....

Porcupine Tree Porcupine Tree Porcupine Tree. If you like Floyd, Rush, especially with a twinge of metal you will love them. I recommend moving backwards with their catalog.

Rory, you were talking about bands with lyrics that mean stuff and have a introspective or philosophical bent...try this.

Love Devin Townsend's "Terria". So heavy and beautiful at the same time. Haven't heard that one yet.

:lol. From what I hear his personality is as scary as his face. But his music is awesome.

iTunes sometimes provides a cheaper price for the entire album than if you were to purchase the songs individually. That also encourages people to buy the whole thing.

I don't like buying songs I don't want...It's like paying £7 for 1 song...

I agree that there are some masterpieces out there waiting to be found, but do the artists care if their worse songs don't get bought? It gives people the option to buy the hits, which in turn will let those that would be put off because they had to buy the whole album the chance to buy just the song they want...
