I personally was fine with the movie--I thought it was pretty much in line with Last Crusade (and I liked Kingdom better, actually). It was fun and pretty light-hearted. Nothing will touch the perfection of Raiders.

I also thought Shia's performance was pretty much the best you could do with such crappy material...

:google You admit that Kingdom was "crappy material" but say you like it better than Last Crusade?!?! So you thik Last Crusade was worse than crap???

Last Crusade was my favorite of the series coming in just a hair ahead of Raiders.

A lot of people hate TLC. I dont get why...but they do.

At the time it was the most slapstick/campy of the series, but it was never to level of later Lucas material - it really never bothered me much.

It wasn't camp. It may have been a bit of a buddy flick (father son), but it wasn't camp IMO.

Temple was camp. :lecture

I'm afraid so. I can't describe the heartache and disappointment I felt at 16 years old sitting in that theater in May 1989. I practically wanted to cry. I had built up so much excitement and anticipation for the movie, and when I finally saw it I was crushed. And back then there was no internet, so anything you saw or heard before the premier was through TV spots and magazines.

Since then I have grown to accept that Raiders was an anomaly and that all sequels, existing and future, will never come close to the perfection that is Raiders of the Lost Ark. I still enjoy the other movies, and I did enjoy Kingdom a little better than Last Crusade. Maybe it's the novelty of it being new? Maybe it's because I went into it fully knowing what to expect? Dunno. But I thought it was fun and I thought everyone involved (including Spielberg and Koepp) did the best with what Lucas dictated.

^^^^^

To each his own I guess.

They're all camp. Temple is the darkest one of them all.

Dark in a "glowing eyes, over the top, stars a little kid, campy" kinda way. :yess:

Here is how I rate them:

Crusade
Raiders
Temple
Kingdom

If it wasn't aliens, Kingdom would beat Temple for me. Aliens. Don't .Belong.

:monkey3 Temple of Doom is actually neck and neck with Raiders for me. :panic:

What makes Aliens more belivable then God arks? I'd believe in Aliens way before I believed in a bearded man in the sky.

Crusade is my favourite. I love the interplay between harrison and connery, I enjoy the nazis as the bad guys again, the young indy prologue is great, the action set pieces are thoroughly enjoyable, the music is perfect...now maybe I should say that I was only 7 when it first came out...but now as an adult the only thing I can see wrong with it is its similarity to Raiders...not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

Crusade
Raiders
Temple

and what Badmoon did for KOTCS.

The snake and some of the animatronics at the beginning of Crusade are pure comedy though. :rotfl :slap :rotfl :cuckoo:

This is one case where my opinion is probably pretty common. I like them in order of their release date: Raiders, Temple, Crusade, and Skull. But similarly, I thought Crystal Skull was alright. It did have its dumb moments, and of course it doesn't stack up to the originals. But was anyone honestly expecting that it might?

BTW, I don't know why ghosts, ancient dead knights, and other mystical forces are OK whereas aliens aren't?

Because its not about thier plausability, but rather how well they fit into the universe already created. After 3 movies and countless EU material firmly established Indy in the public's mind as a series about the search for mystical artifacts, having a movie that was so sci-fi was jarring and out of place.

It would be no different than making another Aliens movie and having it be about the search for Jesus's grave.
