Should they?

YES -- the one they currently have: no charge to cancel unless you flex-pay.

Its a long road from pre-order to shipping. T-800 is nearly a year. A lot can happen to someone financially in that time. I don't believe I should be penalized for that. If SS worked differently, and the item I pre-ordered was available within the month, then yeah it might make sense to charge for cancellations. But not within the waiting period that is currently used.

Hopefully their "waitlist" option covers most of the cancellations for them.

However, I am also ordering and cancelling lots of orders and I wouldn't be happy to pay cancellation fee for cancelling an item which has low quality paint application as an example.

There shouldn't really be a fee. With just a bit better planning and closer control from Sideshow on edition sizes and the cancellation issue wouldn't really be an issue at all. People would cut down on cancelling a lot UNLESS they are bombarded with items all at once.

I think most times cancellations have more to do with low collectibility from a large ES (people make a choice to pass for now) than because of having no money at the time.

I liked how SS took control of the Cap PF exclusive preorder. They capped it (no pun intended) right away when people were ordering their full limit of 2.

People want lower ES. I strongly believe people would keep their orders more if they were. I wonder how many General Grievous PF exclusives they still have... :monkey3

Suicide is seeing exclusives dumped on ebay and collectors feeling like they are "overpriced" when offered direct. I am sure SS doesn't want that.

Decreasing the edition size would artificially create the illusion of higher value. If it is a well made piece, and it seems to be a good value, you buy it. Whether they make 10 or 10,000. SSE PF Dracula makes the point I think. Edition size of 300. Sells for 175.00-200.00 regularly on ebay. Less than retail. The color version goes for 10-20% more than that and has an edition size almost 4 times larger. In this and several other cases in that line, size does not make the difference.

Yes, the GG exclusive... For the price it is offered, SSC should have set the ES much much lower. I remember, I was so upset when SSC announced the ES for the GG exclusive, I wrote them a mail about it. At present, I'm far less militant about edition sizes as I used to be. If an ES is to high, I just cancel. If I'm lucky, the item get's offered later with 10%, 20%, 25%, or even 50% off. Or not. I just became more picky.

Yes, guess there's a bit of truth in that. I ask myself why I have to pay more, when I order directly from SSC? Shouldn't I be rewarded and pay less for ordering directly with them? But... it doesn't work that way. :D

I'm beginning to think along this lines as well. Especially with the Yoda/Luke PF that is about to ship. I look at the price I'm paying, then I look at the price at DSC...then Hulk get angry.

If Sideshow could guarantee ship dates, and spread out items instead of shipping a ton all at once, and if the production pieces always looked like the prototypes, and if they gave us a road-map for the year so we would know what else might be coming... then maybe... otherwise, a resounding NO!!!

Well said, I agree totally.

Sideshow couldn't gurantee ship dates due to so many unforeseen production issues. If it means changes to the production samples for improvements to be made to make it better than I'll wait but it is frustrating when they put off all of the 2006 pre-orders and then ship them all at once in January 2007. My credit card is going to be maxed out. I've been saving some money from Christmas but it won't cover the onslaught I'm going to be getting this month. They should focus on ONE new figure release per month and ship them on a monthly basis. I can at least pay my bills and not have to live on Top Ramen that way.

I would rather see you live on Top Ramen Dave. If you can actually eat well you may not be as Kurganly.

ding ding ding ding!!! We have a winner!! :D

Now that I've been slammed during the most expensive month during the year.

I'd vote yes if it was for a road map.. so we might have a Ball park of whats to come and when. (example.. which Marvel Ladies (white Queen) are coming.

I would like to see Sideshow introduce a cancellation policy. Why? I think it will help lower the editions on pieces and help me not to worry on blowing my money on a statue that will decrese in value when it ships. Long shot, of course.

But I'm bothered by the fact that I feel I have to cancel my PF Luke/Yoda and PF Frodo because I will be able to a get a great deal elsewhere. Now I think due to no cancellation policy most people order and wait to see if the edition is low enough for profit "Flipper", and now they seen the edition and cancel.

I maybe wrong, I really don't know what happens at Sideshow, I can only speculate that the 1st week of orders help issue the edition size. And I think alot of these 1st week orders get canceled. And then months later you read the thread I canceled my....., times that by who knows how many.

Would a cancellation policy help this situation? Would it lower edtion sizes? I think it would be a great change and alot of people would have to think twice. When your spending over $300.00 on a statue you should have to think twice anyway.

dude!! pass it to your left....who in their right mind would advocate for cancellation fees.
