Should some articulation be sacrificed to make a figure more aestheticly pleasing

The EVO/EVA bodies are a perfect example of articulation done in a very aesthetically pleasing way.

Too bad they will never see the light of day.

They look good, but the range of articulation looks to be hindered by the joints. I prefer full range over looks.

I hate when joints are exposed , I am customizing my sideshow terminator figure now and the hand joint keep getting exposed because the default jacket ( which I will be changing ) is too short. It does annoy the hell out of me but to be honest if it means not much movement I think I wouldn't want to change it. :)

Great question either way.

Then you need to get a Terminator statue.

I have one. I just want my figure to look as good as possible because the sideshow one just looks funny. Think of mcfarlane stuff , some barely have any joints but there definitely still classed as figures.
It doesn't bother me at all as long as they can get a decent pose and they look good on display. I never touch them once there done .

Swap it with a true type, problem solved. Better yet, wait till HT Dutch comes out and stock up.

As a few others have stated, it depends entirely on the figure. Some figures need more articulation than others. A terminator figure may not need as much as say a Spiderman. Also, as figures have advanced, there is starting to be a good mix of articulation and aesthetics. Figures today are much better in both departments when compared to those of even just a couple years ago.

I'm not a fan of ugly exposed joints. I'm waiting for my powerloader to be delivered but we ALL know how nasty looking Ripley's arm joints are!
I think a compromise can be made that shouldn't detriment the articulation any. I just think these companies just go the easy route perhaps to cut costs or just being lazy coz they know the hardcore among us will buy regardless...just like having re paints and re dressess of the same figure
