Ha, did they actually say we would see it in August? Then I guess my question does seem a bit "ancy." :chew

I assumed they didn't say when and I just realized how close we are to Aragorn... :lol

Being a box freak, I'm really looking forward to seeing these too. Knowing that a lot of people just toss their boxes, I don't think packaging design always gets the credit it deserves. Sideshow really stepped up when it came to SW. I expect the same with LOTR.

While I don't display the figures in the boxes I still like the designs. I too am looking forward to what Sideshow has in store for the 1/6 LOTR packaging.

I am thinking in displaying or not the figures because the dust is difficult to remove in some clothes, so i dont know

I seem to remember it being said that these won't be like the SW boxes, but will be very different from the traditional SSC boxes.

I thought they might look like a book (like the extended edition DVD's), but that would be very close to the current Sideshow packaging.

That's almost a shame (depends on what they look like) because the SW boxes are great.

Maybe they will be had-carved wooden frame boxes in Lothlorien style, and written in Elvish letters!!!

Actually that's a bit much. But didn't somebody say they were long boxes, or really wide or something? I don't remember....

I was thinking that too! I posted this in an earlier thread, but I would love for the figures to be packaged in something that would look like volumes of a book: similar to what the Voltron Masterpiece figures came in.

I'm down with that, that would look great displayed behind the figures themselves if they looked like over size books.

I hope we see it soon; Aragorn is probably my most anticipated figure right now since Obi-Wan's gone AWOL... I'm curious what they're going to do with the packaging and hope it's ingenious like the Star Wars boxes.

We were actually given a quick glimpse of the box during New Line's LOTR presentation at the San Diego Comic Con. During SS's segment of the program there was a slide showing the design team discussing (what I assume was) the prototype of the 12" Aragorn box.

What we were shown is very different from the "fold-out" SW boxes. This box is a long presentation tray with either a gatefold cover or sliding outer sleeve like a box of matches (It was unclear from the photo just how the box mechanics worked). There was an image of the Aragorn doll on the front and, unless my memory is toying with me, the color scheme was predominantly gold and scarlet. The internal tray itself held the figure off to one side with its myriad of accessories arranged beside it. All of this set off by a background image (Rivendell? Again, it was just a quick glimpse) making the whole thing into an elaborate diorama.

Perfect for display, I'm thinking not particualrly USPS friendly...

They could've changed the design completely since that particular image was taken, but that was the peek we got and, overall, I think it looks pretty darn sumptuous. :monkey5

Thanks Ichabod, I can't wait to see the box in hand! 'Course that means I'll have the Aragorn figure too, so I probably won't look at the box too much!

I wonder if they will show off the box before they arrive. I know they did with Star Wars. I cant wait to see how they package these. I really like the book idea from above. I guess the first three releases would be Fellowship of the Ring packaging.
