I've been collecting statues for a while now, but they have all been small and light weight. I just purchased Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane from the official Side Show website and they are both huge, especially Gwen. The weight is not something I'm accustomed too. I'm not near an IKEA, so I bought a few glass cabinets at JYSK. They are pretty much identical to DETOLF's. These statues won't work inside my cabinet. They are just too heavy and would definitely break the glass eventually.

What are my options to display these larger and more heavier statues? I'm not a fan of just leaving them out in the open, but besides a DETOLF, I have no idea what other options I have for display.

I tried doing some searching to see what other people are using for Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane, but all topics I came across were discussing the statues and not the display.

I appreciate any help. Right now I just have them on my desk which is scaring me a bit. Tempted to put them back in the box until I can find a nice display for them, but they are just to beautiful to hide in a box. I'm really looking forward to getting them in a nice setup as soon as I can.

They are just too heavy and would definitely break the glass eventually.

No, they wouldn't. An 8lbs statue is no problem for any shelf in Detolf. If the JYSK cabinet is of similar construction using the same thickness tempered glass, it will also be no problem. IKEA recommends up to 6kg on their site and that's conservative.

This forum is littered with photos of statues (larger/heavier ones than you mentioned) inside Detolfs - it's practically impossible to open a thread without an example. But if you don't trust the glass, put a piece of plywood in its place.

Click on some of the threads listed on the first page of this sub-forum. Then go up to the "Show Your Shelves!" parent forum for an endless run of photos.

The problem is, they only can hold one statue and that's it. With the DETOLF, the shelving doesn't have enough height so you have to remove a shelf. So if you wanted to display 2, you'd have to remove 2 shelves and only have 2 figures inside the entire cabinet, one on each shelf. I don't mind removing a shelf, but only being able to have one per shelf is why I'm looking for an alternative.

The entire set is 22 lbs, which is too much. Gwen and Mary Jane alone is 12 lbs, which is right on the recommended weight. I'm not a fan of going to max capacity, I like giving myself working room. That's why, if I use the original glass, I can only fit one per shelf.

With regards to your plywood statement, how would you place that into the DETOLF? The glass attaches to the suction to help hold it in place. Would you just lay it on top or would you use some sort of glue/tape to attach it to the 4 suction areas?

Quick edit: Thank you for the info by the way.

The glass attaches to the suction to help hold it in place.

There are no suction cups - the glass sits on top of two metal rails, one on each side. Just cut a piece of plywood the same length and width as the glass and it will also sit on the metal rails. If you want to sit shelves at an arbitrary location you can attach U-clamps anywhere on the height of each of the four metal uprights and sit a shelf on them - each of the four corners of the shelf would be supported by a clamp. The same can be done for a glass shelf. You can also put a new metal rail onto clamps and sit a shelf on that the same way the current rails work.

The Detolf may be too small for a large statue collection, but the glass, which is what you mentioned originally, is not a limiting factor. Look through this and the parent forum as I suggested there are literally hundreds of examples.

Or get IKEA's Besta shelving or something similar. Wider, taller and deeper with veneered particle board sides and shelves.

I know you listed examples, but again the total weight of the set is 22 lbs. The recommended is 12 lbs, that's almost double. If you only do 2 it's right at the limit of 12 lbs exactly. I'm not comfortable with hitting the limit exactly. That's why I'm looking at alternatives with either modification or another display option.

Looks like the JYSK version I have differs in that regard to the DETOLF. From what you're saying, the DETOLF has 2 metal rails. The JYSK version I have has 4 small corners that stick out with suction cups. Based on this new information, I'm definitely going for an alternative instead of a modification.

That IKEA Besta looks nice. I'll have to measure things out, but I think I'm going to go with that. I know exactly where I can put it too. Thank you for the alternative suggestion. That's exactly what I was looking for. Something like that will easily support what I need.

I'm not telling you what to choose, I'm just stating the facts about the display cabinets and tempered glass. The glass can easily hold the statues one per shelf. If you need/want more statues per shelf then you shouldn't use such a narrow cabinet anyway as everything will be too crowded.

The Detolf can hold a conservative 6KG per glass shelf. There are three glass shelves, plus the base.

The Detolf is constructed with two steel ladder frames, one on each side. Each ladder has two full-height legs and three rungs between the legs. The glass shelves sit on the ladder rungs, padded by four small rubber washers - so they're in effect supported on four points.

The JYSK cabinet, which is practically a clone, differs slightly, it has four legs and each leg has three small arms with a rubber sleeve which you stated has suction cups on them (this would prevent the glass from sliding). The shelves sit on the four arms, supported at their corners. If the glass is the same thickness as IKEA's it would support the same weight, 6KG per shelf (just over 13 lbs).

Again, there are many people displaying statues in those cabinets here in the forum.
