Cool, same guy that did the outstanding work on the Probe Droid. Though his name seemed familiar. Thanks for the link. Those are the best photos by far of R5. Have always loved the design. Will definitely be a day one pre-order for me.

That's just the hand-weathered proto though.

Yep, the final figure won't look that good... but R2 did turn out quite good (imo) so I'm hopeful R5 will be another winner.

you caught a wild Falcon in this picture! haha (board member in the background)

I think he caught Madcow as well...

I thought the Sideshow proto painter was named Nathan Eakins (sp?) - then I realized these are two different SSC painters with very similar names.

I don't think works for Sideshow anymore... but he did do a number of prototypes. But they have a number of artists that do work for them.

You're welcome and thanks for the rep! :)

I'm going to guess R5 will be in the $150 range, it would be sweet if he were less than R2, but seems that is not how things work :lol But here's to hoping.

At the very least he's better than the Medicom version, and that was $200 in 2011 :lecture

I don't think it will be more... no electronics (at least none that I saw) and less/no opening stuff.

You can never predict with Sideshow, but I'd guess they'll keep him at or below the "Deluxe" R2 pricetag.

How many calls will their support department get about bad motivators? It's going to be R2 QC all over again. ;)

All the QC headaches they had with R2 is why I'm thinking they may raise the price on this one. Even though there's seemingly a lot less on R5 that would need to be replaced.

....I'm probably naïve, but, how can this figure be much more than $100.00? Unless it pops and smokes, what accessories or light/sound effects could it possibly have?

The paint apps on that proto look excellent!

Waiting for official specs before I make any calls either way, but I still would rather a more robust die-cast R2 & R5.

One will eventually happen, the other maybe not. :lol

Just got an email announcement regarding Star Wars Day. Had a link to buy R5 on the page but it's still just a preview. Guess May 4th is the actual day and their webmaster had a "bad motivator".

The May 4th banner on their web site also pointed to a non-existant page about 30 minutes ago, but seems to be working now. $25 coupon code that can only be used on Star Wars items no one wants, plus a bunch of other non Star Wars stuff.

It'd be cool to see another couple of reveals.

It's an interesting question how much this should be. No drinks tray or light-up table, no arms or saber, no onscreen reason for any opening hatches at all, and importantly, no lights. This is essentially a solid body, legs with a new head.

Even in the context of a $150 R2, there really is not much justification at all for this being anything over about $110, especially given it's 3/4's a re-use.

All this being said, I'm really looking forward to completing my set...

Just enough clean wrist space for an Apple Watch. The stainless version would go well with either droid. Go for it.
