Does anyone else want to see Sideshow start making some affordable environments made of quality plastic instead of polystone? I've passed on all of them so far because I could not justify their prices. Also, certain items could benefit from being hollow plastic like Han frozen in carbonite and the emperor's throne: both of which could have had some battery powered LED colored lights inside.

I am with you.

Yes.

I'm sure many would welcome less expensive, cheaper to ship environments rather than overpriced, hard to ship polystone stuff.

I don't get why the use polystone in the first place.
I'm sure part of it has something to do with the fact that they can skimp out on other things (electronics, lights, more detail) and still get away with calling the product "high-end" and pricing it accordingly. It's really very frustrating. I'd much rather they made products like the Han In Carbonite Environment out of lighter weight plastic if it meant they could add things like lights (and also keep the costs down), but they seem intent on continuing to make some of the most expensive paperweights around.

This for $90??? In this economy? Go pound sand...

I'd be down for them keeping the polystone, charging more, and just putting the damn lights & sound in. At the end of the day, it's just the right thing to do. They like thier polystone medium, fine, keep it, but give the fans what they want as well. Dont pretend as if electronics dont work in polystone. GG does it all the time!

X2, don't want to hear anymore PT OT stuff when it comes to Yoda.

It's Yoda, you just ____ing buy it!

:lecture :rock

I've been waiting for SS to make a 1/6th Yoda ever since the Medicom one came out.

Looking forward to adding this badboy to my collection!

I'd like to see SS produce more affordable enviroments. The polystone ones are nice but I just can't justify the price.

I think the price of Yoda will have a large factor in whether or not I cancel the Emperors throne.

Is that a Kung Fu pose? I always thought it was a "bring it" pose. :lol Badass either way.

I would like to see Yoda come with a clear stand that we can use to pose him like he is in mid-air leaping toward an opponent.

PLASTIC requires the tooling of steel mold. for something the side of an enviroment the molding cots alone would be around $30,000. imagine that cost spread over a run of 300 pieces. the total cost of a plastic enviroment would be around 3-400 dollars.
polystone molds cost less but the material is more expensive. this is the most affordable way to provide this product. just be glad its not licensed or the price would be even higher.

I don't get why the use polystone in the first place. Even if the plastic lowers their profit by a bit I think they could make more in the long run by selling more. I like some of those Sideshow original bases they have, but just can't afford them.

Exactly right. :lecture

I have never been a fan of the Yoda "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon" fighting. Seeing him spinning around in mid-air and jumping from place-to-place during the fighting makes me think of Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce GO!

And I am aslo, absolutely NOT a fan of the CGI Yoda.

However...in my own opinion...Yoda using the Force to draw his 'saber against Dooku is my single favorite "Yoda" moment. So I would like to see some kind of device that can be concealed but still have a 'saber hilt attached to it to look like Yoda doing that.

And I am sure that Sideshow is not likely to make something like that, but I have something that I think will work nicely.

But spread over 3-4k pieces would drop that cost by a 10th, make it affordable to the masses and considerably more appealing.

dearest, the reason plastic toys are so affordable is because toy companies spread the cost over 10-40 thousand. if sideshow had that kind of customer base the surley would make 40 thousand. the fact that they only make 300 or so should show you that they are meeting the demand. but if you know of 40,000 people who want a plastic environment piece feel free to send them to the site. then we would all benefit.

But here is where that argument loses steam:

Yes, companies that product plastic toys in the thousands (or hundreds of thousands) have to invest in expensive steel molds, because standard molds would break down quickly. But there ARE cheaper molding & tooling methods that are good for just a few hundred pulls. I know this from first-hand experience. And so the tooling/moms expense excuse for plastic products carries fat less weight when you consider that just a few hundred pulls per (inexpensive) mold would be right in Sideshow's wheelhouse.

uh.. what is your argument? sideshow should, or should not make steel tools? i vote, NO! silicone molds and polystone products all the way.

Darn iPhone typos. And the Edit function doesn't work in this Tapatalk app. Grr!

Anyway, the bottom line is that Sideshow could produce some of these polystone products in cheaper plastics without having to invest in the hugely expensive molds & tooling techniques. Do you think they invested $40-$70k in steel molds for their 1:6 weapons & accessories? Of course not.

The reason they use polystone almost exclusively is because consensus opinion (even among collectors) is that it automatically makes a piece more high-end. The problem arising now is that this need not be the case for every product, particularly 1:6 environments.
