I always assumed that we are supposed to use whatever is inside of the quotes. However, I suspect she would accept it both ways. I wouldn't think that would be criteria for rejection. At least, I hope not.

Personally, while I can see the asterisks being cause for rejection, quotes are usually used to denote what should be the subject in question, and aren't part of the subject itself.
