I just updated my SS version to a new slim body and the articulation is much better on it. I agree if the sculpt was repainted properly, it would be a great alternative to the Hot Toys one. To me the HT version looks very life like. The SS looks very toyish.

I would disagree. With a proper paint job the SS sculpt is a bang-on likeness of Sir Alec. The HT sculpt is a passing resemblence and looks possibly a bit too Asian.

I agree, I sold my SS Obi-Wan and bought the Hot Toys and am regretting it. The Hot Toys is an amazing figure all around, I'm just having a hard time seeing Alec Guinness.

Pixel, that IS Obi Wan. Very nice!

Thank you! He is just about right where I want him (finally).

Trevor really nailed the likeness. it's just a shame that Sideshow's production factories took these excellent sculpts and buried them in substandard paint apps.

Fixed.

WOW. That's Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan Kenobi.

Just got my custom painted head back from Mike (Hydeous). I'm really happy with how it turned out. No matter how many times I looked at HT Ben and tried to see Guinness, I just couldn't. SS sculpt isn't perfect, but I can see Guinness there. The paint job was holding it back, but now it blends in with the other HT OT figures.

I know this is an old thread, but I finally got around to repainting the head on mine and thought I'd share. Despite the lack of detail this is still an absolutely amazing sculpt as far as I'm concerned, and the best Obi-Wan that's ever been done.

I did try to add as much detail as I could to make up for the lack of skin texture, but unfortunately a lot of the subtle speckling and stuff doesn't seem to show up well in my camera phone pics. And I also weathered the outfit a little bit as well, especially towards the bottom.

Nice job! I can see the subtle freckling in the pics, imagine it's much more impressive in person.

I also agree this is a great headsculpt. I'm very happy with mine, especially after transferring it onto a TT style body.

it really is a great sculpt and a good paint job makes it excellent. I added wrinkles and aging and repainted the sculpt and added real hair and beard for my attempt.

This is the only ss figure that I love, and fortunately that I own. Thanks davejames and zebraten to remember us of this guy. And thanks for sharing your great works.

Fantastic repaint!
This is the only Sideshow figure I've kept from ANH, as I don't really think the HT version is so hot. Unfortunately, he's packed away, so I haven't been able to see in hand how good or how bad he holds up against HT's figures. My guess is that it's not too good...
