Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

Looking at this more I am not sure how much I like the pose. Now it is still just a preview pic but I am not sure I am liking the strain of the neck position. He also seems a tad thin or something in this pic. He almost looks like a stegosaurus standing up on it's hind legs.

But it's early. I will wait for the full reveal. If it turns out not looking much better then the preview pic then I could see passing if the price is as high as some believe it will be. :(

Even though I did not love the movie I did really like the design. I hope the maquette turns out good. But I will only pay a higher price if it's 100% perfect.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

Sorry, but that pose is so weak. Looks like he's shouting over his shoulder at his nagging mother. Never understood Sideshow's obsession with the butt, side-boob, and face twist pose. Why not a straight at you power roar or something with this? What a missed opportunity for greatness.

Other than that, the sculpt work is looking phenomenal!

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

The only thing I don't like about the pose is that the legs look way too mechanical. Like his top half has a lot of torque and dynamism, but they dropped the ball on his lower half by having his legs almost perpendicular to the ground. Personally, I want to see the full reveal. That one teaser shot isn't doing this thing any favors.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

Why is Sideshow sculpting a new maquette for GODZILLA to begin with, when the actual "movie mold" maquette already exists, has a better pose, and would be greatly preferred by buyers simply because it is the actual version used in connection with the film? SS could scale it down if absolutely necessary, but I suspect fans would find a way to cough up two grand or so for a statue this spectacularly large and dramatic-looking.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

I personally really dig this statue's pose:

This would be perfect for a 12" vinyl (looking at you, X-Plus), but the pose on this and the larger production maquette look much better than what SSC came up with.

Yea that legacy maquette is freakin epic..I don't think anyone would complain if that was it. Hopefully theirs can stand on its own.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

thought the movie was nice, but not as great as everyone say it's. loved pacific rim much more, but I would love to own Godzilla statue!

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

Yeah I would rather have the legacy sculpt and pay a bit extra.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

Yes, I also greatly preferred PACIFIC RIM to GODZILLA, possibly because I like using the metaphor of G as a nightmarish Destroyer of Humanity, a figure of retribution to punish us for our nuclear folly... rather than presenting him as the Protector of Humanity, which is what he eventually became over the years (along with Gamera). He's more like a big wimpy lug of a superhero in this new movie, who is nice to people, rather than the full-fledged walking nuclear bomb monster I fell in love with. This new Godzilla will never turn his radioactive breath against us or our cities, because they'll soon be pitting him against other crazy monsters and aliens in a series of expensive TRANSFORMERS-like movies, aimed at kiddies and their what-the-hell daddies. Wanted this to be more like a smart DARK KNIGHT or Marvel movie, dammit, not something in the lesser, dumber tier of TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, etc. Oh well... we'll always have those trailers, which suggested a far better finished experience. Meanwhile, the big beast itself looks great and a cool maquette probably can't be avoided, no matter what we think of GODZILLA 2014's cinematic worth.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

I agree with most of you here about the pose. The head is way too twisted to the side. :( I was really looking forward to this Maquette but it is a bit disappointing.
Same reason why I'm hesitating to preorder the Death Wing statue.. I hope SS will make more maquette's with different posture.

Pacific Rim has something that Godzillla doesn't, and that is the monsters and robots ONSCREEN and in full view for probably 1hr and 15 mins if not more. Where as, if you don't count the scenes where all you see is the spikes on Godzilla's back, he is on screen and in full view for maybe 30mins max. I get what the director was attempting, to focus on the human stories, but in the I didn't go to a Godzilla movie to see the action pan away everytime Godzilla started to do his thing just to focus on running humans.

With you all the way. I just re-looked at the Sideshow teaser pic this morning , and my first thought was "It looks like his legs are frozen in carbonite or something..." I mean, it's just awkward. I feel like the full reveal will have to show things off better. I mean how could Sideshow get this far into producing something and not notice how "off" it looks? I'm afraid to try and answer that question myself. :dunno

agree with you bro, the problem is, the human stories are generic & not interesting here (except for maybe Bryan IMHO). I read somewhere that godzilla full reveal screen time is about 10 minutes! can you believe that!! & they named the movie after him lol
Again, I cant't say I didn't enjoy the movie, it was good but not great. & I'm all for the maquette if the size, pose & price is acceptable.

Bryan Cranston had me the ENTIRE time he was on screen; once he is no longer featured that prominently, the countdown to godzilla started in my mind. At that point the stories and what have you was just not as interesting and didn't have the passion imo to follow Cranston, so the movie did lull for a little until the more action-filled sequences picked up. I enjoyed the movie though.

Re: Upcoming Sideshow GODZILLA Collectibles

For what it's worth, the official Godzilla logo/symbol, the one that's been used on a gazillion licensed toy products for decades, has him in a "turning the head" pose. Wonder if it was conscious decision to do the maquette of G 2014 as a modern variation of this iconic image? Godzilla-icon.jpg

Sideshow likes dynamic posing, I think they just wanted to make something more interesting than a just standing there statue.
