Adam is here on the boards once in a while. I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in with details on the painting.
I have no idea who Gemma is but you must be blind if you can't see the resemblance. It even looks like that very insert was the source material he based his drawing on.
Adam Hughes rendition of anything automatically makes her too hot to be believably attached to Mark Hamill.

Mike you have great taste in women, but I think they may all be blurring togeather for you.
Realistically almost all the artists whom have posted especially with the Marvel stuff have said that they base their art on real people, Tim Miller has said it a few times. There is a good chance that Adam did as well and a few members on these boards are in contact with him quite a bit, it's not a mystery that couldn't be solved...
And with that, I'm heading back downstairs to continue sculpting big hair.
Technically, we can't say who was or wasn't used as reference for any given piece due to licensing and legal issues.
I can say that none of the aforementioned personalities were used as reference (if I happen to be sculpting a Mara Jade figure at all)
I may as well address this here, since it's often a sore spot for some collectors. Often times, the artistic direction might take the piece in another direction from the initial concept sketch, usually facially. Changes may come from Sideshow or even Adam to make the figure more closely resemble a particular model or actress rather than a sketch, though we can't ever make it look just like someone, again for legal reasons, unless it's a person we actually have the license to sculpt.
I may be reading into this more than intended ...
Yeah, you're reading into it WAY too much. Trust me, if I were to be sculpting Mara Jade, the person I would hypothetically be using as reference would probably be the last person you'd think of, if she weren't so obscure.
