I'm most of the way done with transferring my Han Solo figure from the standard Buck to the slim-shouldered Hot Toys body, and I've hit a snag.

Can someone explain the best way to go about switching the heads? I know I've seen it done, but I don't think I ever knew exactly how. A link would be good, if possible. :)

Cheers!

Just boil and pop. Unless you have a custom-painted head, in which case you should use a hair dryer on high to heat the head enough to easily pull it off.

So I can just drop Han's head in a pot of boiling water? Seriously? :lol No fear of the paint coming off?

I use a hair dryer myself. Just cook it til the plastic softens up, and then ease the head off with some gentle persuasion otherwise you're liable to break the neck post right off with the head, and then you'll have to pry it out with a screwdriver or something.

you might need a neck adapter

:lecture :lecture :lecture You'll need to use the small neck adapter and glue the headsculpt to that once you get it off the buck. As Mikey stated, nuke a mug of water for about two minutes and dip the head into it for about 10-15 seconds, or until pliable (no need to worry about the paints) or as Mr. Obsolete said, you can hit it with a blowdryer for about 5 minutes until pliable; then, just pop it off and glue it to the small neck adaptor.

As far as gluing it, I find i prefer Hot glue to super glue. holds better, and with the afore mentioned boil and pop method, you can get the neck adapter out if need be as well.

Done! :D Thanks for the invaluable assistance, everyone. I'm indebted.

Here are the results. I'm open to suggestions. (Except from those of you encouraging me to dust my table. ;) )

Very nice, Rook! Love your photos!

Although, I don't know if it's the way the vest is open, but his chest looks a bit too wide for his legs. But you can really see the figure's posture hangs more naturally in the TT. Even his face looks better because of it!

Nam: How do you mean? I pulled the neck post out, and it split down the middle. But I'm guessing it's repairable and reuseable. :) Everything else on the Buck body is in perfect shape.

Jim: I noticed that as well. :\ I think it might have something to do with the legs no longer having feet. I just shoved the boots onto the lower legs. I'm afraid that may have resulted in his legs being a bit shorter than I'd like.

However, when I look at the figure with the naked eye (not through a lens), it looks just fine. I'll play with it.

I was just wondering why you replaced the body. No biggie. As for the feet, you can take a needle and poke out the pin holding the toes. It'll still allow you to have an anchor point and you don't have to worry about those long tootsies.

Oh, I see. :) I thought that maybe you had a use for a nude Buck or something. (Insert random joke here...)

I was never really fond of the lengthy forearms on the Han Solo body (much like the Jedi Luke, if you remember that). And I was having a difficult time getting my figure to pose exactly the way that I wanted it to. With the TT, that's no an issue. :rock Great figure body. I've played around with posing one before attempting to kitbash with it, and there's no position I couldn't get it into. (Again, random joke insertion point...)

Thanks for the tip on the feet. I'll give it a go, but those boots were re-e-eally uncooperative.

I wound up swapping Jedi Luke's buck with Praji's who's now wearing Ki's whose body was replaced with Giles' body whom I purchased for the suit and glasses to use for a Professor Jones custom. Now Luke's arms are no longer monkied, I don't have to worry about the discoloration on Praji because his outfit doesn't show any of Ki's body and Ki is perfectly tall (which is how I'd prefer him).

How did the Professor Indy turn out?

Excellent Indy. :rock

I'm wondering if I should wait for my slim TTs to arrive before kitbashing my Jedi Luke, or if I should just go ahead and use the narrow-shouldered version...

Thanks. I hated posting that pic here but I couldn't find the original post to link as it's buried in the Indy Custom thread. :lol As for Luke, I'd just wait for the slim. He's too tall on the Narrow Shouldered TT (it's identical in height to the standard TT).

Hey, man, you should never hate posting any pic. They're each worth a thousand words, after all. (Listen to the photographer...)

Slim TT it is, then. :) I didn't know they were shorter. That's good to hear.

as far as the feet go, why not simply boil some water, dunk hans boots in them, detach the truetype foot from the body, soap it up, and shove it into the sideshow boot? I've done this with EVERY swap I've done, and never had any trouble, nor have i ever needed to remove the toes from the truetype feet. then simply wash the boot out to get the soap out of it, and insert the leg with ankle peg into the boot and press intill it snaps into place.
