Aragorn Auction

I cannot believe this. I would have bidded but too much things are coming right now. THis is an awesome price. Didn't this statue go for $1000 four digits?

I can't believe anyone would pay that kind of money for that bad of a sculpt.

Some of the SSWETA pieces are jaw dropping and some of them are just plain bad.

But yes, many people are ditching the Polystone pieces in anticipation of the PF pieces.

This comes without the box, hence the price. I saw the auction and decided to skip. With Box and packaging, I'd imagine the price would be substantially more.

I paid about $900 for mine last November (all costs considered). It was the last missing piece to complete my Fellowship and I don't regret it.

Some thoughts that pop up in my mind:

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

In most hobbies other than collecting, you won't ever see your money again after you've spent it - in collecting, most of the time, you can get at least some money back (in addition to the joy you had while receiving and having the pieces).

Is an Orthanc "worth" $ 1000?

Is a Moria Orc Swordsman "worth" $ 800?

Is a missing package "worth" $ 300 less?

Is a small repaired crack on a Balrog "worth" $ 400 less?

Common sense simply doesn't work with this kind of collecting!:duh

It's a really nice piece. No it doesn't look much like Viggo but I think again you can feel the "essence" or soul the piece has.

i'm only into LOTR Creatures and monsters so I am watching a whole lot of them right now to see if the prices fall a bit more :D

Well said goliath. I would think each of us has a piece or two that isn't considered "worth it" to many people, but they tug at whatever illogical and unintellectual place within us and urge us to get them nevertheless.

:lol i'm actually just watching the Orc brute, Fell beast, and hopefully The watcher in the Water.

Glad I sold my Aragorn for $1600 a while back.

;)

FYI, it really is an ok piece and better in person.

Fully agree.... can't really use common sense to value collections...

Well I certainly dont mind! I want em as low as possible so I can snag em up! I really want Sauron and Saruman statues atm. Saurons a good price but shipping is hell, Saruman is usually going for around US$300 right?
