It's a new style for them - we may be seeing it more in the future.

My fingers are crossed. These two figures look great. On that note, I really don't know why Tim Miller doesn't get more props for his amazing skills. The Frodo looks amazing and the Samwise is uncanny.

We all know that SSC has a lot of very talented sculptors, but Tim's smooth, organic style is easily the most life-like of all of them.

My only nit with using casted material and not paint is the material, for some reason, the surface didn't come out all the same and there's variations of patches on the faces where the light casts a big glare, like some sections have a shine and others very matte. I'd like to see that made consistent in future figures done this way.

I didn't notice that when I shot them. Pop up some pics if you have some.

My shots, as usual, can be found in the CTR Photo Archive

I really like the way the hobbit faces were done. Some of SSCs faces look too painted like a person with too much makeup or clowny.

I agree. I think this the way of the future. Having the material molded in the flesh tones and keeping the paint apps to a minimum.

I thought of all of the recent 12" releases in all of the SS lines, the Hobbits looked best, with Palpatine coming in a close second. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Ben Kenobi paint apps. The sculpt is a masterpiece but the paint apps were pale and glossy.
