Hi everyone,

I am currently reading the silmarillion and there is some pretty epic characters in there. Are there any conpnaies that make silmarillion based statues? Has weta ever talked about making them? There is some great art for the silmarillion bu john howe that would make great statues.

Cheers!

Gentle Giant made a 1/6 Glorfindel Bust...goes well with the 1/6 scale SS Balrog bust

I think as long as the rights are still held by the Tolkien Estate, we won't see any sort of merchendise from the Sil or other Tolkien works. I would love to get statues of Manwe, Melkor, Gothmaug, and the Noldor elves, etc. Just too many epic tales, battles and characters. Would love to have them all....:)

Glorfindel is a nice 1st Age piece...in fact it might be the only 1st Age piece.....I think?

I had asked Daniel Falconer about this piece and here is hat he had to say:

Gentle Giant had a provision within their license to look outside the films for characters, but were still confined to characters that appeared in the book of The Lord of the Rings, which is why they were able to do Glorfindel. The bust was their interpretation of Glorfindel from The Lord of the Rings, but not from The Silmarillion.

So unfortunately this is not a FA sculpture. However, Weta could potentially get license from the Tolkien estate to make John Howe Bronzes/FB based on Silmarillion paintings, and there are a lot of John Howe Silmarillion paintings! I hope Weta considers this route at some point.

When JRRT sold the rights to THE LORD OF THE RINGS , did they include all of the books content or was the content in the Appendices exempted?

If there was no specific exemption - you could do statues of the following characters which are indeed discussed in the Appendices to the LORD OF THE RINGS:

Feanor, Morgoth, the Valar, Beren, Luthien Tinuviel, Idril, Tuor, Thingol,Melian, Barahir, Dior,Elwing, Elros, al the kings of Numenor and so many others that you should read it to see.

What affiliation does Daniel Falconer have with Gentle Giant to say that? According to Gentle Giant its the first age Glorfindel. I remember that when I bought it and took me about 1/2 hr this morning to look for the box...It's a first age piece. It's on the box itself on the narrative. The box was probrably required to have the LOTR logo but this guy IMHO is the first Age Glorfindel. His outfit is also so unlike any elf too seen in the trilogy. That outfit on the art box drawing looks like Elronds, but only silver. The bust itself is done way completely different. I bet the sculptor was thinking first age too. I say its First Age like the box and the Balrog bust displayed next to him in my house says so too...LOL

I class this as from the Sil stories. It is by an artist named Eugene Baker but no reference to what it represents has been found for definate. Still, I see Turin with dragon helm and black bladed sword standing with his sister at an enchanted forest as Glaurung approaches over the valley.

The content of the appendices was not exempted, that's why PJ uses it in the Hobbit films.

Now that is a very interesting piece you got there. It could very well be that
