Wow, this movie took a huge nose-dive after Friday's mega-opening. It still won the weekend, but barely. Its Saturday drop is staggering and almost unheard of. Check out the numbers:

1 SEX AND THE CITY
Friday $26,930,000
Saturday $17,920,000 (-33.5%)
Sunday $10,890,000 (-39.2%)
WEEKEND TOTAL: $55,740,000

2 INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL
Friday $12,233,000
Saturday $19,875,000 (+62.5%)
Sunday $13,892,000 (-30.1%)
WEEKEND TOTAL: $46,000,000

3 THE STRANGERS
Friday: $7,719,000
Saturday $7,817,000 (+1.3%)
Sunday: $5,171,000 (-33.8%)
WEEKEND TOTAL: $20,707,000

It appears as if most of the bubble-brains went to see SATC on Friday and left it on its own after that. And it's getting some pretty bad reviews... 55% at Rotten Tomatoes right now. What gives with this movie? After Friday I actually thought it might become the TITANIC for middle-aged American housewives. Turns out it'll be lucky to make more than $115-$120 million total. :huh

I didn't think it would drop that much. Damn. I knew it would drop, but wow.

Still I saw the title of this thread and got a little excited (since I'm fresh from a 12 year split & just turned 30). When I looked inside and saw Sex and the City, I thought of one of my best friends...poor ******* got dragged out to see it by the wife on Saturday afternoon. Haven't heard back from him since...

You gays..er, guys care too much about this movie.

:rotfl

Everyone I know expected the Friday drop off. Pent up demand, first night parties, etc.

But honestly I am happy a neglected market was served here. Women over 30 deserve their niche Films, as do the Boomers, another HUGE neglected market (which single handedly held up the dying Music Industry.)

Hollywood Moguls rarely have a clue what true Audience demos want and simply go by the latest numbers. Most of them are out of touch Lawyers, MBAs, Accountants.

I'm just glad I don't have to hear any more stupid radio commercials for that damn Strangers movie :joy
