i have several favorite movies that weren't very popular at the box office and maybe not even DVD or BR sales. i thought it would be cool to share those i think are worth a watch. i'll start with...

miller's crossing: stars gabrial bryne, albert finney, marcia gay harden and john turturro. set in the 30s prohibition era, the story is about gangsters and has a very lively and twisting story. one of joel and ethan cohen's best but not many can tell you they've seen it.

the machinist: stars christian bale and jennifer jason leigh. bale is a machinist and has a problem sleeping..to the point of insomnia and hallucinations. a wonderful performance by bale who lost so much weight for the part, he looks like a POW.

the illusionist: stars edward norton, jessica biel and paul giamatti. norton plays a turn of the century magician who borders on the occult. it's a wonderful story with love, mystery and many twists and turns with a surprise ending you will LOVE.

do you have any sleeper movies you'd like to share?

I know there are a ton but for some reason "buried" comes to mind. Maybe its because I think Ryan Reynolds is a terrible actor and expected that movie to be complete trash, but for being filmed in a ****ing box for nearly the entire movie it was pretty good.

Reminded me of another sleeper called phonebooth with Colin ferrel.

Split Second is awesome! I haven't checked to see if it finally came back on Netflix, last I looked it wasn't on there yet.

I am adding Ghost Ship, love that movie.

If you like ghost ship check out the movie below.

Running Scared is another sleeper that features a terrible actor as the star, none other than Paul walker. Nobody saw the movie because of him but its a fun ride of a movie. The actress who plays the mother in bates motel gets down and dirty in this movie. So if u like her definitely check it out. Its very violent but that shouldn't bother most freaks

Not sure if this qualifies as a sleeper for people in their 30s but True Romance is a fantastic film that rarely gets talked about in this forum. I definitely recommend everyone who likes mob/QT movies (he wrote the script) to watch it if they haven't seen it

That wasn't a troll post. Calm down. Everyone defended, and praised True Romance after Scott died. The reason why we don't put it on the QT films list is because he just wrote it. He didn't direct it. It's not his film.

I would have to say Hard Candy. Was a pretty good film that very few people that I know have seen it and thats only because I made them watch it.

I liked it. Pretty intense little film.

Too bad the director didn't do much else afterward...except direct a cool Vampire movie...and then a ****ing Twilight one.

Writing the movie makes it just as much his film as it does Tony Scotts. Goyer wrote man of steel does that mean he gets no credit for writing it because he didn't direct it? Uhm talk about giving a director who just films the story way too much credit.

No it doesn't. The director makes it completely his own if he's not working directly with the writer...which is what he did. The script, and the film are very different things.

Uhm dude go back to film school, yes directors like QT and Clint Eastwood who both Write and direct get the credit and control your speaking of. If they don't right the story they don't have as much control

If you are implying is true writers wouldn't exist since the director would be doing all the work. The directors film the story and bring it to life

This is why most directors are hired AFTER the story is written, so the studio can choose the best director to film the particular story they have

What's wrong with you? I made one comment suggesting you should've seen the response True Romance got when Scott died. And you freaked out. Stop freaking out. :lol

It's not that QT doesn't get any credit. It's that True Romance isn't his film. It's his story, his characters, but not entirely his. That doesn't make it lesser then his other films, nor is it true he doesn't deserve credit.

But that is Tony Scott's movie. So let it be Tony Scott's movie.
