Looks amazing! Can't wait to see it painted. We should both finish about the same time. It's interesting that we are working towards the same goal, yet our methods are completely different.

Yes that?s really cool. But I have to say that there?s a lot more reason to praise your scratchbuild approach. That said I think this one will look great when painted.
Unfortunately it isn?t really possible to install any lights in this one. Your light up features look amazing!

You managed to put some lights in your A-Wing. I'm sure it won't detract from the overall awesomeness of it, once finished.

Out of curiosity, what is the overall weight and roughly the cost of the filament used for such a large model. Some members on here have expressed their desire for a 1/6 Snowspeeder. Maybe you could do a small run of kits?

My guess it that this one takes about 8-10kg of filament including supports.
Knowing the time it takes to print one of these it won?t be possible for me to print another. 3D printing can be pretty frustrating at times...
but people are lucky! Jazzinc is doing a run of Snowspeeders. I think they will cost 1.400$.

Painting has started :)

Looking good! My own build is on hold for now, as my James Bond Lotus Esprit is very near completion. Once that is out of the way, i'll be able to free up some more desk space.

Looking great Slik!

Did you do any sanding on those print lines, or is that straight out of the printer? It's the one thing that worries me about the snowspeeder vs the a-wing - the flat panels that are harder to get smooth vs the a-wing curves where it's easier to hide them.

Thanks :)
Well no, I didn?t do nearly as much sanding as I did with the A-wing. But you?re right, the flat panels are much harder to get smooth than for instance the rancor.
It?s mostly about placing the panels right on the build plate. Printing them standing up to make them smooth. If you have a lot of patience you can get them pretty perfect... but I?m not patient and can?t afford to spend too much time on this. So I?m getting some small waves in the print right here and there because it can wobble slightly after sudden movements in the build plate. That can be avoided by printing slowly. If I had doubled my print time the panels could have been pretty much perfect I guess.
Also if it?s more like a cube, as for instance the canopy, you will get lines on one of the sides. That can easily be smoothed out with filler and sanding.
My print isn?t perfect because of my lack of patience, but I don?t really see it. Especially when it?s painted. I also don?t mind that you can see how it?s made when you get really close. If you sacrifice enough time you can pretty much get it as you want.

Great job, Slik! :clap
Not sure if that is adhesive residue or overbrush but that subtle frosting on the windows is a very nice touch.

Yeah the lines have a slightly "cast steel" or "etched by use" look to them, so it doesn't bug me. I'm assuming there are super expensive printers that would have almost no lines at all, but those would be out of reach.

But wow, Alain is truly becoming the master of 1/6 SW ship sculpting. The level of detail he got into some of these parts is just incredible. I thought about his cloud car too but it's not quite as accurate as his snowsp.

His snowsp has a few sculpt issues but they are more minor - the canopy looks like he angled it a bit too much (like the rear-most side window seems more trapezoid than rectangle) but it's not all that noticeable.

What is the width on your canopy front? (ie the width dimension of the front-most line of the canopy where it joins to the body.)

You?re right. It?s a mix between some weird effect from the glue and some added paint. Makes a pretty convincing effect :)
