There are now about a quarter of a million people displaced because of the wildfires raging in Southern California, and I just wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with any board members who have been impacted and might be forced to leave their homes. Let's hope that things get under control as soon as possible, and that everybody's loved ones are safe and accounted for.

:peace

This is like Groundhog Day. They were talking on the news about how it's like the fire four years ago this time of year. And that led to how it was also like the fires so many years before that and so on and so on.

What kills me is the ash in the air that makes it hard to breath and gets in the sinuses.

edit:
WHOOPS!! My 2K post. Take that all 1999 posts up until now.

If I recall correctly, this is much worse than the fire 4 years ago. Its a little insane here. Can't go North, South, East or West, at least where I'm from. In about 48 hours, 3 of the fires (the Agua Dulce fire, Ventura County fire, and Magic Mountain Fire) are expected to merge. Like many others we're packing things up here so we're ready to go at a minute's notice. Good luck to everyone else in similar or worse situations.

very bad situation here in SoCal :monkey2
my thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy, the closest fire to our house is about 10-15 miles away, but the winds have been gusting up to 79mph here and it looks like a hurricane went through.
There is a new fire in Lake Arrowhead that started this afternoon...I heard many homes had already been destroyed.

Thankfully, the winds are a litle calm in my area right now but we still have the Lake Arrowhead and Devore fires blazing. The area school districts are closed today due to the smoke and potential wind conditions.

Good luck to all and our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by these fires.

This is really sad. I think we need to really look at how to better improve the firefighting system in regions prone to this.

Not sure if SoCal has many militia type firebrigades, some how I have a hard time imagining multimillionaires living on mountain side homes donating much time to volunteer fire departments.

Anyway, there needs to be an early detect and early extinguish system out there to catch this before it becomes massive. I don't think it should be up to the tax funded gov to do it either.

Good luck guys!

Before evacuation grab the following:

Food
Clothing
Medications
Pet Food
Important Documents
Doom PF

J/K... but seriously good luck from a Floridian who knows a little about evacuating.

I didn't even know about the fires until yesterday (I've been sick for a week ), my brother was coming to visit from San Diego and it took 4 hours (normally 1.5 to 2) to get here.

I saw some of the fires on the news last night, it is crazy, the sky to the south is dark and red and it's kinda hard to breathe outside. My thoughts and prayers are also with all who are affected by this.

One of my co-workers lives close to where the burning is, but his area hasn't been evacuated. The schools closed down though and he was telling me how he could see the fires from his house.

we got a nice smoke cloud around simi on the weekend which was kinda interesting and I didn't have to go to work yesterday.

I haven't heard from my buddy Jim in San Diego, not that unusual, but you can only hope...

San Diego is by far the worst. I have heard that up to 750K people have been evacuated in the county. They even told everyone to stay home if they could to free up streets for emergency crews and people being evacuated.

My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone near all this.
I know all too well this fear, and that dreaded smell!
Hang in there! And someone, spray those Sideshow offices down! Let's keep them safe too! :rock

Good luck all!

I just called my family; they're safe and our city isn't in any immediate danger (I'm from Mission Viejo), but a lot of the surrounding cities are in peril. I hope the best for my fellow So Cali freaks; may no danger harm any of you!
