So I sold my first statue. I custom an outershell box & bubble wrap the SSC outer shipper box, so there would be no issues with damages. Well apparently customs tore through all 3 boxes before inspecting the statue. Needless to say, the shipper box & art box were all ripped to pieces. Now I need to file a bloody claim with Canada Post, to refund the buyer.

My question is, what is the value of the art box that I should be asking for?

I'd go from the angle that the art box is inherently important to the value of the collectable and go for a minimum of 20%. Higher if they let you get away with it.

If I sold the staute for $400, how much % is the box worth?

I think you should pose that question to the buyer. Get an official letter from the buyer stating that he'd like _____ for a refund. Take is back to the post and ask for that.

okay.... this is going to be a pain and a butt though to prove that the value of the box is at 20%. I really hate customs....

thats a great idea. I will suggest that to him.

That sucks man ....and its going to be hard to prove the value to someone that doesn't collect....

...to be honest its hard to even articulate the value amongst those that collect other than to say that collectors generally have OCD

So I got the picture from the buyer and I could not believe what customs did with the box. Instead of them opening the box like a normal person would, they cut into it with a box cutter. The entire art box is cut open by the blade. :gah: now I'm going to have to file to get $120 back for the buyer.:monkey4

So it was Canadian customs that did the damage? It didn't even get out of the country? Now I see why a lot of people don't want to sell international.

No it was US customs that did it. Canadian Custom Officer don't manhandle packages like the US do.

They probably thought it was a bomb. ____en Americans. I'm glad I'm from California.

Wait a minute......

Good luck bro :duff

Even if the buyer wants to keep the bust? Wouldn't he have to give it up if I was to ask for 100% back?

I don't know. But you shipped him something and they cut it to pieces with a box cutter. I don't see how a partial refund would suffice.
